This concert of orchestral masterpieces is conducted by Edward Cumming, Hartt's Interim Director of Orchestral Activities and long-time Music Director of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. The Hartt School of the University of Hartford is pleased to announce that Edward Cumming, Music Director of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, has been named Interim Director of Orchestral Activities for The Hartt School for the 2010-2011 academic year. Now in his eighth season with the HSO, for the 2010-2011 season he will hold the two positions concurrently.

The Hartt School presents An Evening of Concerto Winners on Friday, February 5, at 7:30 PM in Lincoln Theater on the University of Hartford campus. This wonderful event features the four Paranov Concerto Competition winners from the 2009-2010 season. Two of the competition winners will perform with The Hartt Wind Ensemble, led by Glen Adsit, and two will perform with the Hartt Symphony Orchestra, led by special guest conductor Edward Cumming, Music Director of The Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Admission is free.

On November 15, The Hartt School will present the finals of the tenth annual van Rooy Competition for Musical Excellence, in which Hartt undergraduate instrumental performance students compete for three cash prizes of $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000. The competition provides important financial support for Hartt undergraduates to pursue their musical careers; the awards are some of the largest among American music competitions.

The Bushnell's fully staged concert version of Meredith Willson's 'The Music Man' proves timeless for the audience and its stars

The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford, CT, celebrated its much anticipated opening night of 'The Music Man' on Tuesday, April 22 at Vito's by the Park. Performed as a semi-staged concert, the 50th Anniversary Tribute stars the legendary Shirley Jones and son Patrick Cassidy, along with Broadway veterans Lisa Vroman and Jason Graae.
