Pasadena Symphony to Close Out Season with Grieg Piano Concerto, 5/2

The Pasadena Symphony concludes its exhilarating season with a bang on Saturday May 2, 2105. Hear award-winning Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez performing the Grieg's hugely popular piano concerto and taste the rapture and romance of Romeo & Juliet as summoned up by one of the greatest Russian masters, Prokofiev at Ambassador Auditorium with matinee and evening performances at both 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.

BWW Reviews: Well-Strung Thrills with POPSSICAL Encore at 54 Below

New York City based string quartet Well-Strung returned to 54 Below on Friday, March 27, 2015. Performing to a sold-out house, the always charming and handsome performers delighted audiences with an encore engagement of their entertaining hit show POPssical. While reprising much of what they performed the last time I reviewed them in late October, the guys' charismatic set had a handful of new surprises.

Julie Adams and John Churchwell Up Next in 'Schwabacher Debut Recitals' Series, 3/29

?The 32nd season of the Schwabacher Debut Recitals continues on Sunday, March 29 at Temple Emanu-El's Martin Meyer Sanctuary with soprano Julie Adams and pianist John Churchwell. Adams and Churchwell will present a program of works by Alfred Bachelet, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Edvard Grieg, Sergei Rachmaninov and Lee Hoiby.

Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes & Mahler Chamber Orchestra to Play Carnegie Hall This Month

Carnegie Hall presents pianist Leif Ove Andsnes leading the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from the keyboard in a two-night series of Beethoven's five piano concertos in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. On Monday, February 23 at 8:00 p.m., they perform Beethoven's Piano Concertos Nos. 2 in B-flat Major, Op. 19; 3 in C Minor, Op. 37; and 4 in G Major, Op. 58. On Wednesday, February 25 at 8:00 p.m., they play Piano Concertos Nos. 1 in C Major, Op. 15; and 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 73, "Emperor."

The Immediate Family presents Henrik Ibsen's PEER GYNT, adapted by Scott Raker, from the English translation by William and Charles Archer, directed by Haas Regen. PEER GYNT features original music written and performed by Mackenzie Shivers, inspired by Edvard Grieg's score. PEER GYNT will be performed Friday, December 5th through Saturday, December 20th, at the Alchemical Theatre Laboratory (104 W 14th Street, NYC). For DIRECTOR'S CHOICE, the second program of Pacific Northwest Ballet's 2014-2015season, Artistic Director Peter Boal selects two PNB premieres paired with stunning repertory works in this absorbing mixed-bill. Opening the program, David Dawson's breath-taking, hyper-extended A Million Kisses to my Skin references the intoxicating bliss dancers experience while performing. Rassemblement, Nacho Duato's poignant work set to slave songs by Haitian artist Toto Bissainthe, voices communal yearning and resistance in a climate of oppression. Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's (Cylindrical Shadows) critically-acclaimed signature piece, Before After, a PNB premiere, unmasks the turmoil just before a relationship ends. The performance closes with Debonair, a world premiere by New York City Ballet's rising star Justin Peck, praised for 'electrifying classical dance with [his] fresh vision' (Wall Street Journal). The program also includes a musical prelude to shine the spotlight on the nationally renowned PNB Orchestra, currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary season. BWW Reviews: Well-Strung's POPSSICAL is Astoundingly Vibrant

Well-Strung is impressing audiences with their brilliant mash-ups of classical hits and modern pop standards. Touring their latest show POPSSICAL, Well-Strung visited New York City's 54 BELOW last night and left the assembled audience both awestruck and invigorated. Their pulled from the pages of a magazine looks, winning personalities, wonderful voices, and incredible instrumental skills easily dazzle and delight for their entire set.

The Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble Presents EXCLAMATIONS!, 11/16

Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble (PSYWE) opens its 2014-15 season with a new music director, Gregory X. Whitmore, who leads the ensemble in a lively display of youthful musicality and captivating wind repertoire. Titled “Exclamations!” the fall concert features two works by one of the 20th century's most prolific composers of music for concert band, Alfred Reed. His majestic “Alleluia! Laudamus Te!” opens the program, while the authentic folk melodies of “Armenian Dances” serve as the finale. In between, Scandinavian composer Johan Halvorsen's “Entry March of the Boyars”—a stately yet lively piece, tinged with exoticism and full of rhythmic excitement—is followed by Eric Whitacre's beautiful poem-based composition “Lux Aurumque,” originally written for a virtual choir. PSYWE's concert takes place on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m., in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall.

Denver's Wonderbound is gaining national attention this October as Artistic Director Garrett Ammon's 'Serenade for Strings' premieres with San Francisco's Smuin Ballet. In addition, the work will be a part of Wonderbound's season opening production of 'Enduring Grace' with musicians of the Colorado Symphony. 'Enduring Grace' also features a world premiere work by Company Artist Sarah Tallman.

Whidbey Island Dance Theatre's THE SNOW QUEEN Revival Comes to WICA, Now thru 4/13

Whidbey Island Dance Theatre's 'The Snow Queen' returns to Langley in a co-production with Whidbey Island Center for the Arts which staged the ballet with WIDT 18 years ago to sold-out houses. Originally created by WIDT in 1996 and 1998, 'The Snow Queen' was the first full-length production designed for and presented on the new WICA stage.
