CANTON, Ohio (November 15, 2013) — A lot of pianists have performed on the Umstattd Performing Arts Hall stage with the Canton Symphony Orchestra, but the latest guest artist of the orchestra's concert series is taking the world by surprise. Since 2008, Alexander Schimpf has won competitions and acclimations few before him have managed.
Deborah Simpkin King to Lead Manhattan Choral Ensemble in Holiday Concert, 12/6-8

The Manhattan Choral Ensemble (MCE) will begin its 14th season with guest conductor Deborah Simpkin King leading a program of holiday music on December 6, 2013 and December 8, 2013. As the fourth installment of the MCE's Reading and Carols series, the choir will present musical selections and literary passages focused on the theme of Love. Dr. King will conduct in place of the MCE's Founder and Director Thomas Cunningham, who is currently on a one-year sabbatical in New Zealand. This is the first MCE program ever to feature a guest conductor.

The DanceVision Performance Company is excited to announce the return of its holiday ballet, The Snow Queen, which will be performed at The College of New Jersey's Kendall Hall Theater on Saturday, December 14 at 7pm, and Sunday, December 15 at 2pm. The lead role of the Snow Queen will be performed by Jillian Davis, a former member of the DanceVision Performance Company and alumna of Princeton Dance and Theater Studio's Conservatory Program.

The Manhattan Choral Ensemble (MCE) will venture into new territory in its 14th season through collaborations with three distinguished guest conductors who will stand in for Music Director Thomas Cunningham during his one-year sabbatical in New Zealand. The three guest conductors-Deborah Simpkin King, Andrew Megill and Joseph Flummerfelt-have worked with Mr. Cunningham to curate programs that will showcase the MCE's commitment to contemporary composers and choral masterworks.

In celebration of Koerner Hall's fifth anniversary, Dr. Peter Simon, President of The Royal Conservatory, and Mervon Mehta, Executive Director of Performing Arts, revealed today some of the details of the 2013-14 concert season. As always, the upcoming season will include pop, world music, and new special series. Classical and jazz concerts are being announced now, and the rest of the season of over 70 concerts will be released in June. The Conservatory is thrilled to welcome Broadway star Audra McDonald; soprano Natalie Dessay with composer and pianist Michel Legrand; cellist Mischa Maisky; violinists Midori, Isabelle Faust, and Leonidas Kavakos; pianists Yuja Wang, András Schiff, Kirill Gerstein, and Menahem Pressler; Europa Galante with Fabio Biondi; and jazz musicians Joe Sealy, Jackie Richardson, Arlene Duncan, Ranee Lee, Ramsey Lewis Quintet, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terri Lyne Carrington, Lalah Hathaway, Nona Hendryx, John Pizzarelli, Daniela Nardi, and The Manhattan Transfer.
Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra Performs Fall 'Animal Kingdom' Concert Tonight

The breathtaking talent of some of Southern California's most proficient young musicians lures audiences with two concerts of classical favorites to kick off Pacific Symphony Youth Ensembles' (PSYE) 2012-13 concert series this November. Led by Music Director Maxim Eshkenazy, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra (PSYO), named Classics Alive Youth Orchestra of the Year in 2012, captivates listeners with rich European harmonic history, including the Spanish dances of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Capriccio Espagnol," the medieval beauty of Wagner's "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" and the Norwegian folk tunes of Grieg's "Peer Gynt," as well as an original composition by the Symphony's French horn player, James Taylor. "PSYO Fall Concert" takes place Sunday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m., at Meng Hall at California State University, Fullerton.
