As part of its current 2019-2020 Performing Arts Season, Japan Society presents a staged reading of Cooking Up, by Japanese playwright Shoko Matsumura, led by Brooklyn-based director Jordana De La Cruz, taking place Monday, March 30 at 7:30 PM at Japan Society (333 East 47th Street). Cooking Up marks the 15th installment of the Society's annual Play Reading Series: Contemporary Japanese Plays in English Translation, introducing topical plays from emerging playwrights from Japan to artists and audiences in the U.S.
Garden Theatre Has Hired Full-Time Education Director

After several months of a nationwide search, Garden Theatre has selected Nick Bazo to be the new Education Director. Mr. Bazo will be the theatre's first full-time Education Director, in charge of programming and implementing life-changing camps, classes, and community partnerships throughout the year.

Underscore Theatre Company is excited to offer a bonus event during this year's Chicago Musical Theatre Festival: a benefit concert curated and headlined by Ebrin R. Stanley, most recently seen in the highly acclaimed Chicago company of Hamilton as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison. The Reality of Love will take place on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 10 pm at The Edge Theater, 5451 N. Broadway in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood. DOUBLE VISION, a new musical by Olivia Popp at the 2020 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, is the proud recipient of a Givers Fund Grant from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA). Awarded once a year, this prestigious grant is awarded to programs and events that 'further SFWA's mission, which is to promote, advance, and support science fiction and fantasy writing in the United States and elsewhere, by educating and informing the general public and supporting and empowering science fiction and fantasy writers.'

Double Vision, a new musical, runs through February 22 2020 Chicago Musical Theatre Festival. An original show of galactic proportions, Double Vision turns musical theatre on its head with science fiction inspirations, queer- and POC-centered narratives, and an 80s rock-inspired score. Double Vision is artistically and collaboratively led by a team of Northwestern University and Stanford University alumni and is proud to be supported by a grant from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

Underscore Theatre Company Presents its 6th Annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL

Underscore Theatre Company will present its 6th annual CHICAGO MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL, created to showcase and support the growing field of musical theatre creators from Chicago and beyond. The 2020 Festival features full productions of eight new musicals, plus two pay-what-you-can staged readings and a showcase of 10-minute musicals. The Festival will be performed simultaneously on two stages from February 3 - 23, 2020 at The Edge Theater: the Broadway (5451 N. Broadway) and the Off Broadway (1133 W. Catalpa Ave.) in Chicago Edgewater neighborhood. Each full production will receive at least five performances during the Festival. Tickets are currently available at www.cmtf.org. The press 'Sneak Preview,' featuring a sampling of songs from the 2020 Festival, is Monday, February 3 at 8 pm.
