Cygnet Theatre to Present COMPANY, Begin. Tonight

Cygnet Theatre's ongoing love affair with the works of Stephen Sondheim (A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Assassins) continues as their new season launches with Company, the Tony Award-winning musical exploration of marriage and commitment. Company is a musical comedy based on a book by George Furth with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The original production premiered in 1970 and was nominated for a record-setting fourteen Tony Awards and won six. Company opens tonight, July 5th and runs through August 18.

Ed Poll Announces Release of LIFE AFTER LAW

The new book offers advice and guidance to attorneys who are considering transitioning out of their law practices and successfully moving into new endeavors which Poll refers to as their 'second season.'

IT GETS BETTER THEATER PROJECT to Play The Moore Theatre, 2/23

It Gets Better is the upbeat, exciting, and funny narrative and musical that includes moments of pain and pathos from the 'It Gets Better' you tube videos and project, started by Seattle's Dan Savage. A 6-member cast of the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA) will partner with the UW Chorale, from the University of Washington, and over the course of a one-week residency, these artists will collaborate with other local performers, citizens, and educational and government institutions in building a community performance responding to the issue of bullying in local schools, culminating with a staged musical program at The Moore Theatre on February 23rd.

Comedian and larger-than-life personality MURRAY HILL (aka Mr. Showbiz) gives the much needed gift of holiday cheer and entertainment to New York City with his legendary Yuletide tradition: A MURRAY LITTLE CHRISTMAS at Le Poisson Rouge, Saturday, December 15 at 8pm. Expect an evening of hilarious and wacky skits with the cast, a sleigh full of cheesy holiday songs, plenty of nuts, fruits and tree trimming. Murray also promises a few tender moments when he sings his signature 'Have Yourself a Murray Little Christmas.'

Michael Phelps Takes Final Swim of London Olympics Tonight on NBC, 8/4

Michael Phelps, the most-decorated Olympian of all time with 20 medals, swims for his final gold medal of the London Olympics tonight, Saturday, August 4, in the 4x100 medley relay. Phelps will swim the butterfly leg. Missy Franklin is expected to anchor the women's 4x100 medley relay in the freestyle leg. Also in primetime, reigning world champion Carmelita Jeter is expected to sprint for the gold in the women's 100m on the track tomorrow night.

The Pub Landlord will be swapping his bar stool for a drum stool when he appears at the event as a compere. Al will join rock n roll's biggest stars to celebrate the life and work of revolutionary amp pioneer Jim Marshall OBE.

Metropolitan Opera Announces 2012 National Council Auditions Winners

The Metropolitan Opera today announced the winners of the 2012 National Council Auditions. They are: Janai Brugger, soprano from Darien, IL; Anthony Clark Evans, baritone from Owensboro, KY; Matthew Grills, tenor from Newtown, CT; Margaret Mezzacappa, mezzo-soprano from Euclid, OH; and Andrey Nemzer, countertenor from Moscow, Russia. The winners were selected from nine finalists who performed arias with the MET Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Davis. Each winner receives a cash prize of $15,000, as well as invaluable career exposure: the audience for the auditions includes influential opera executives, artist managers, and music critics, and some of the biggest stars in opera received their first major recognition as National Council Winners. The Grand Finals Concert was hosted by renowned bass-baritone Eric Owens, a 1996 National Council Auditions winner. During the judges' deliberations, he gave a special performance of "Ella giammai m'amo," King Philip's aria from Verdi's Don Carlo.

The cast includes Jeffrey Jones, Mike Sears and Cygnet newcomers Kelly Iversen and Vimel. Previews begin January 19th, 2012, and Press Opening is January 28th, 2012.

Cygnet Theatre is delighted to announce the scheduled Wednesday dates of our OUT NIGHT @ CYGNET Series. Established to welcome and thank our LGBT audience members, Cygnet's 2010/2011 Season includes one night per production with a free pre-show mixer including cocktails, appetizers and enter-to-wins. Everyone is welcome to attend, with a distinct focus on the LGBT Community. Remaining OUT NIGHT dates include October 20th (Living Together), December 15th (It's a Wonderful Life), February 16th (The Tragedy of the Commons), April 27th (Cabaret) and July 6th (Our Town). The FREE pre-show mixer begins at 6:30pm and the performance begins at 7:30pm.
