Last year BroadwayWorld Toronto brought you the Toronto Tony Awards Connection - recapping which Tony nominated performances our local audiences may have seen. I've decided we're going to continue that tradition this year. Two Tony Award nominated productions had pre-Broadway engagements in Toronto this year: LES MISERABLES and Disney's ALADDIN.
Flashdance, the 1980's Paramount Pictures movie which led to the creation of the MTV format has been translated to the stage by a group which includes the original film creative team. The show tells the story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer.

Will Flashdance be the Mirvish Mystery Musical playing Toronto in December/January 2013? The show, which has three Canadians on it's creative team was announced to play Toronto in 2012, but that fell through. The production was also scheduled to open on Broadway in the 2013-2014 season, but that too has been postponed.
Decca/Universal Music Classics announce the digital release of the Cast Recording of Heartbeat of Home, available March 4th on iTunes and all Digital Partners. Having made its North American premiere this past January at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre, in the coming months the international tour will play engagements in Chicago, Detroit and Boston. For those who aren't able to make it to a live show, Heartbeat of Home will be part of special programming set to premiere on PBS stations beginning March 1st, 2014 (check local listings).
