THE WIZARD OF OZ North American Tour to Play Academy of Music, 6/3-8
The first North American tour of the new stage adaptation of THE WIZARD OF OZ will follow the yellow brick road to Philadelphia for a limited engagement at the Academy of Music beginning June 3 - June 8 as part of the Broadway Philadelphia season, presented by The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and The Shubert Organization.The press opening is scheduled for Tuesday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets ranging in price from $20 to $115.50 can be purchased by calling 215-731-3333, online at kimmelcenter.org/broadway, at the Kimmel Center box office, Broad & Spruce Streets. (open daily 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) or at the Academy of Music box office, Broad & Locust Streets. (open during performances only). Performances include: Tuesday - Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.; Friday & Saturday evening at 8 p.m.; matinees Saturday at 2 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m., and a weekday matinee on Thursday, June 5 at 2 p.m.
THE WIZARD OF OZ had its North American premiere on December 20, 2012 in Toronto, ON, at the Ed Mirvish Theatre, where it ran through August 18, 2013.
Starring Danielle Wade as Dorothy, who was chosen by the Canadian public through CBC TV's reality show "Over The Rainbow," the tour of THE WIZARD OF OZ is an enchanting adaptation of the all-time classic. Developed from the ever popular MGM screenplay, this new production contains all the beloved Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg songs from the Oscar-winning movie score, all the favorite characters and iconic moments, plus a few surprises along the way, including new songs by Tim Rice andAndrew Lloyd Webber.
The national tour of THE WIZARD OF OZ will feature the same award-winning creative team from London and Toronto: Jeremy Sams (direction), Robert Jones (set and costume design), Arlene Phillips (choreography), Hugh Vanstone (lighting design),Mick Potter (sound design), Jon Driscoll (video/projection design), David Cullen(orchestrations) and Graham Hurman (musical supervision). Animals will be provided byWilliam Berloni.
The national tour of THE WIZARD OF OZ is produced by Bill Kenwright, The Really Useful Group, David Mirvish, Troika Entertainment & Warner Bros.Theatre Ventures.
