The holiday season is already underway and Beck Center for the Arts has created a great lineup of family-friendly events to keep your hearts warm despite the frigid temperatures! From magical musical theater and dance performances on tour, to an exhibition tradition and hilarious youth theater, there's sure to be something memorable for people of all ages and abilities.
The McCallum Theatre presents Bob Newhart on Saturday, November 17, at 8:00 pm. One of the most important, influential, and beloved figures in the history of American comedy, Chicago native Bob Newhart has been entertaining audiences around the world for over 50 years. Bob has enjoyed success in television and films as well and hosted the "Tonight Show" an astonishing 87 times. His early TV effort, the "Bob Newhart Variety Show," earned an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award and was followed by the television success of "The Bob Newhart Show" (1972-1978) and "Newhart" (1982-1990). He has appeared in over 14 feature films, including Elf, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Catch 22 and Legally Blonde 2, and has starred with the likes of Steve McQueen, Bobby Darin, Barbara Streisand, Madeline Kahn and Walter Matthau. He's also provided character voices for major animated films.
The Great Food Truck Race takes a culinary road battle through the Wild West this summer, with seven teams of food truck hopefuls competing to win a $50,000 grand prize. Hosted by Tyler Florence, the trip hits hot spots in the Southwest to test the competitors' cooking chops, selling skills and business savvy. Each week, the teams hit a new city for fierce food challenges, and the least successful truck heads home - until the one team left standing is awarded $50,000. The Great Food Truck Race kicks off Thursday, July 26th at 9pm ET/PT and the winning truck will be named in the season finale on Thursday, August 30th at 9pm ET/PT on Food Network.
Beck Center's Dance Education program proudly presents a magical production of the classic ballet The Fairy Doll, March 16-18. B Street extends nationally acclaimed comedian Jack Gallagher's smash hit show Complete and Unfinished in its intimate B3 space through March 9th. Beck Center for the Arts has been awarded a $20,000 grant from The PNC Foundation's Grow Up Great initiative, a $350 million, multi-year campaign that began in 2004 to help prepare children from birth to age 5 for future academic success. This funding will be used to provide early childhood arts education programming for preschoolers enrolled in the West Side Ecumenical Ministry's Youth and Family Learning Center (WSEM-YFLC) Head Start as well as The Mary W. Butler Day Care Center at Merrick House in Tremont.
