The Fairy Doll was first staged in Russia in 1897. This one act ballet in two scenes was originally created by Nikolai and Sergei Legat and features the music of Josef Bayer, as well as music by Tchaikovsky, Gottschalk, Liadov, and Drigo. Additional choreography by Melanie Szucs, Associate Director of Dance Education. The story begins in what may seem like any other Toy Shoppe in town, but as the doors close and the night falls...a bit of magic envelopes the store! With the townspeople fast asleep in bed, the toys awaken for a night of enchantment. The production will feature 75 students, ages 8-18, from Beck's dance department. Also included on the program will be excerpts from Act 1 of Paquita performed by Beck Center Dance Workshop. Beck Center's 2015 production of The Fairy Doll was performed in front of sold-out audiences.

A sensory-friendly performance of The Fairy Doll will also be staged for audience members with special needs on Sunday, March 18 at 4 p.m. "This performance will be an inclusive and safe environment for those with special needs, and is a meaningful way to open yet another door to arts participation for many in our community," remarked Beck Center's Director of Education, Ed Gallagher.
