Producing Artistic Director Ted Pappas has announced the line-up for Pittsburgh Public Theater's 09/10 season. The six-play subscription series begins October 1, 2009 and runs through June 27, 2010. 'Our audiences will experience a season of infinite variety,' Pappas said. 'Included are Shakespeare's best-loved play, a musical about the greatest jazz singer of all time, and a ferocious tour-de-force starring a great actress. Add to that a British comic masterpiece from a living genius and friend, a Pulitzer Prize-winning romantic comedy by an American treasure, and a sweet surprise as the finale. This season has it all,' he said. In addition, The Public will present two special engagements.
The legendary Ladies of Summer continue their captivating hold on Hartford Stage audiences with the swinging sound of the First Lady of Song, Ella Fitzgerald, in Ella, starring Broadway veteran Tina Fabrique.
Arena kicks off performances in this temporary location, known now as Arena Stage in Crystal City, with the swinging new musical Ella, conceived by Rob Ruggiero and Dyke Garrison with book by Jeffrey Hatcher.
'Ella,' the musical play that weaves myth and memory, comedy and drama, mystery and music about the heart and soul of Ella Fitzgerald, one of the world's most beloved jazz singers. Performances begins June 23, opening June 29, through July 22.
Due to other engagements, Tony Award-winner Donna McKechnie will no longer be taking on the title role of Mame in a semi-staged concert version of the Jerry Herman classic at the Barrington Stage Company in Pittsfield, MA
