Florida Stage, Florida's only professional LORT theatre dedicated to exclusively producing the best new work in contemporary theatre, is proud to announce the plays for its 2005-2006 Season. A MARRIAGE MINUET by David Wiltse, World Premiere, October 21 – November 27. A comedy about the joys and temptations of sex among those who are old enough to know better, A Marriage Minuet tells the story of two writers and their wives who take both the high road and the low road and somehow end up in the same hilarious mess. A comic study of the meaning of loyalty and honor and dignity, and their utter uselessness in today's age of the dumbing down of literature and the erosion of values. The comedy hit of our 2005 New Voices play-reading series. EXITS AND ENTRANCES by Athol Fugard, December 9 – January 15. South Africa 1961. An idealistic young playwright and a raging older actor. One poised on the threshold of a promising new career. The other struggling against the shadow of being forgotten. The world premiere production of a true story of a life-changing friendship by the acclaimed author Time Magazine called "The greatest living active playwright in the English speaking world." Winner of three 2004 L.A. OVATION Awards, including Best World Premiere Play. CRADLE OF MAN by Melanie Marnich, World Premiere, January 27 – March 5. Civilized rules of modern day life don't apply in the world surrounding Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania, the birthplace of mankind. Two American couples, one on a relief mission, the other on an anthropological academic assignment, meet in this "cradle of man" and ponder their old established principles and priorities. But, facades crack under the sub- equatorial sun. Bodies come together and lives come apart in this extraordinary place, to reveal the anthropology of the human heart. The dramatic hit of our 2005 New Voices play-reading series. ELLA: OFF THE RECORD Conceived by Rob Ruggiero & Dyke Garrison, March 17 – April 23. The year is 1966 and Ella Fitzgerald invites a combo of her favorite musicians to jam with her at a Los Angeles studio. As the session unfolds, we meet the singer as we've always wanted to know her. Swept along by a cascade of her best-loved music, we share Ella's highs and lows as she breaks through to her own musical celebration of living. SPLITTING INFINITY by Jamie Pachino, Southeastern Premiere, May 5 – June 11. In this explosive drama that speaks to the mind and the heart, Leigh Sangold, Nobel prize-winning astrophysicist, decides to take on the ultimate scientific experiment: to prove or disprove the existence of God. Leigh's pursuit throws into chaos her relationship with the Rabbi who's been her closest friend – and in love with her – since they were kids. A provocative exploration of faith versus science versus love. Please note that all titles are subject to change without notice.
