Acclaimed LA band Las Cafeteras and fan favorites Mostly Kosher bring their diverse and quintessentially So Cal sounds to Union Station's virtual concert experience Holiday Song Tracks this season. In collaboration with Metro Arts Presents, the concert will premiere on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m.

LA Opera has announced that the new Digital Shorts series will launch with The Five Moons of Lorca (Las cinco lunas de Lorca) by composer Gabriela Lena Frank and librettist Nilo Cruz, streaming online from December 11 through 25.

In what has become a popular holiday tradition at The Soraya, the lively Nochebuena celebration returns this year as Nochebuena En Casa, an online presentation available to audiences beginning Friday, December 18, 2020 at 5pm.

LA Opera announced today that it is postponing, reimagining or canceling all currently scheduled in-person programming for the remainder of the 2020/21 season due to concerns for artist and patron safety regarding COVID-19. Recent news regarding the development of vaccines has reinspired confidence in the company's ability to return to normal production for the 2021/22 season, which will be a combination of rescheduled and new programming. 

A Los Angeles holiday tradition presented in conjunction with The Music Center since 1959, the 61st Annual L.A. County Holiday Celebration takes on a vibrant new format for 2020.

Violins of Hope is an internationally renowned collection of over 60 stringed instruments rescued from the Holocaust and restored by second-generation violinmaker, Amnon Weinstein, and his son, Avshalom in their shop in Tel Aviv. Last March, the collection was brought to Los Angeles for a month long series of concerts, exhibits and student educational programming, most of which were suspended in response to the then growing worldwide health crisis.

The Music Center and KCET have announced an expansion of their broadcast partnership with the upcoming airing of the 32nd annual Music Center Spotlight Virtual Grand Finale on KCET as part of its weekly arts and culture series, SOUTHLAND SESSIONS on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at 8:00 p.m., and on PBS SoCal on Sat, Septembe.r 19, 2020, at 7 p.m.

LA Opera announced today that it is postponing four productions that were scheduled for later this year to the fall of 2021 due to concerns for artist and patron safety regarding COVID-19.

Corona Choreographic Chronicles: Dulce Capadocia & The Silayan Dance Company were the featured honorees for the first ever FilipinaFest planned to honor the late Sonia Capadocia, Silayan Dance Company Founder in celebration of National Women's History Month.  Earlier this year, plans were set to honor the creator of the Los Angeles-based Silayan Dance Company by her daughter Dulce, a choreographer trained in both Philippine traditions and American Modern Dance forms.  Silayan is the first Philippine-American dance company as well as the first culturally specific arts organization founded in Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles, California.  Sonia, in addition to being an award winning director, teacher and civic leader was also a talented seamstress.    The Philippine Expressions Bookshop in San Pedro, California offered to create an installation of her personal collection of beautifully hand-sewn gowns and elaborate Silayan costumes.  This was to commemorate a series of book readings in celebration of National Women's History Month.  As word got out in the larger Philippine-American community,  it grew into an entire Festival - aligned to be the first 'Filipina-Fest' Los Angeles Festival.  First.  Ever.  Produced in partnership with FilAm Arts (the Association for the Advancement of Philippine-American Arts and Culture) and spearheaded by Giselle Tongi Walters, the event was to take place at Philippine Expressions in San Pedro at the end of March to recognize the important contributions of Filipina leaders who greatly contribute to the civic life of our great city.   Important women civic leaders and 'movers and shakers' in the community were chosen to participate and partake in an exciting live dance performance, fashion show and festival parade of the handmade garments.

This Spotlight focuses on Cate Caplin, a multiple award-winning producer, director and choreographer whose talents have ignited productions on television, in films, music videos, commercials, and in theatrical venues worldwide. But of course, her busy schedule was put on hold with the rest of the world, just as she was beginning to direct and choreograph a musical very close to her heart.

A a?oevirtual lockdown productiona?? of Jason Robert Brown's The Last Five Years will be presented starring Danny Becker (Jamie) and Lauren Samuels (Cathy), with Samuels also making her directorial debut. The actors will record their parts entirely in isolation, using only what is available to them, which will be edited together into a full-length show.

Since 2001, young music lovers between the ages of 9 and 17 have gathered together at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to sing, create and challenge themselves through LA Opera's annual summer Opera Camp. Faced with the new challenges of our time, the company swiftly made adaptations to enable this important program to continue serving the young people of Los Angeles County — this year's Opera Camp will take place in virtual studios and rehearsal rooms. This new adjustment assures the continuity of a beloved program that has come to mean so much for its participants.

Recently, Los Angeles Opera has had to announce the cancellation of the final performance of Roberto Devereux on the main stage as well as both performances of Angel's Bone, which was to have been presented in partnership with Beth Morrison Projects at the Broad Stage. At present, the governor's closure order for Los Angeles remains in place through April 19, and the opera has not yet canceled additional performances. Noting that they are vigilantly watching for updates that would affect the remaining May and June performances, the company is still holding out hope. The priority is, of course, the safety of patrons and company members, so they're taking it one day at a time.

The Music Center and its theatres (Ahmanson Theatre, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Mark Taper Forum and Walt Disney Concert Hall) will remain closed through at least April 19, 2020, per the 'Safer at Home' order issued by Governor Newsom.

Citing the global outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), German dance company Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch has cancelled its North American tour, including the upcoming performances of Palermo Palermo scheduled for April 17a?"19, 2020, at The Music Center's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. The Los Angeles engagement had been a presentation by Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center.
