Broadway's biggest night is just around the bend! Before we officially celebrate the Tony Awards, the nominees gathered last night to salute the 2019 Tony Honorees, which this year include: Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre: Rosemary Harris, Terrence McNally, Harold Wheeler; Special Tony Awards: Marin Mazzie, Sonny Tilders and Creature Technology Company, Jason Michael Webb; Regional Theatre Tony Award: TheatreWorks Silicon Valley Palo Alto, CA; Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award: Judith Light; Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre: Broadway Inspirational Voices - Michael McElroy, Peter Entin, FDNY Engine 54, Ladder 4, Battalion 9, Joseph Blakely Forbes.

Good morning, BroadwayWorld! Yesterday, the Drama Desk Awards were announced! Among the big winners were Hadestown, Tootsie, The Ferryman, and The Prom!

In the past few weeks, we've watched the nominations roll in. Today the final crop of nominees have been revealed, all leading to next week's ultimate announcement- the 2019 Tony nominations.

This episode of 'Tell Me More' is BroadwayRadio's fourth annual Tony Omnibus Episode. In the 2019 edition, Matt Tamanini spoke with six individuals; four 2019 Tony nominees and two of our favorite theatre journalists. The show features 2019 Tony nominees Beth Leavel, David Korins, Dominique Morisseau, and Warren Carlyle, as well as journalists Ashley Steves and Diep Tran.

The first national touring production of Ain't Too Proud - The Life and Times of The Temptations will officially launch at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, in July 2020, before the tour goes on to play more than 50 cities coast-to-coast for more than 100 touring weeks, including a homecoming to The Temptations' roots in Detroit, and a triumphant return to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

Why start a theatre company? Louisville already hosts a healthy roster of theatre companies, most of them run by people finding precious hours to make the commitment outside of a full-time job. Against the odds, two veteran actor/directors are starting new initiatives in the community: Jason Cooper (Pandora Productions, CenterStage) is calling his venture The Chicken Coop Theatre Company, while Craig Nolan Highley (Wayward Actors Company, The Alley Theater, CenterStage) and Jeremy Guiterrez (Wayward Actors Company, The Alley Theater) have chosen the moniker, Theatre Reprise. Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park Artistic Director Blake Robison announced today the appointment of Karen Zacarias and Nicole A. Watson as new Associate Artists for the theatre. They will join Wendy C. Goldberg on the Playhouse artistic team, working closely with Robison on season planning, new play development and community engagement.

The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) today announced the 2019 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. The nominations were announced this morning by the current stars of Waitress, Shoshana Bean and Jeremy Jordan, at the official announcement event at Sardi's Restaurant, which was streamed live online here at BroadwayWorld.

Bonnie Comley, Founder of BroadwayHD, was the guest speaker at MAESTRA's May seminar at SongSpace. Composer/lyricist and music director Georgia Stitt founded the MAESTRA organization in 2017 to give support, visibility, and community to the women who make the music in the musical theater industry. The MAESTRA membership is made up of female-identifying, non-binary, and gender non-conforming composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, rehearsal pianists and other musicians who are underrepresented minorities in musical theater. Songwriter and composer, Kathy Sommer, moderated the seminar.
