The Harris Theater for Music and Dance today announced the addition of Rennie Harris Puremovement to its 2016-17 Family Series lineup. After the company's incredible reception during their three performances in the Chicago Dancing Festival this summer, it was clear the city could not get enough of this high energy company. Rennie Harris Puremovement Street Dance Theater presents RHAW- Rennie Harris Awe-Inspiring Works - is an energetic, inspiring, and breath-taking program. It is focused on forging new paths for young hip hop hopefuls and presents hip hop in its "RHAW-est" forms, while highlighting urban culture. The New York Times says, "they don't settle for eliciting gasps…The vocabulary embraces not just the full historical panoply of hip-hop styles, but also salsa, tap, and vernacular moves…" This performance will replace Hubbard Street 2's Mariko's Magical Mix: A Dance Adventure as the final Family Series performance of the season on May 13, 2017.

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance today announced the performances of its popular Exelon Family Series for the 2016-2017 season.  Established in 2008, Exelon Family Series programs provide unique learning opportunities for families to experience world-class performances together at the Harris, at affordable prices. These informal, high energy performances encourage children and families to clap, cheer, and respond to what they see onstage in a judgement free environment. Family Series performances run one hour in length and are designed for children ages 4-12, taking place on Saturday afternoons at 2pm. Angelique Kidjo Wins 3rd World Music Grammy For 'Sings'

Angelique Kidjo, the Benin born singer/songwriter is celebrating the win of her third 'Best World Music Album' Grammy Award for her 429 Records album Sings. It's the artist's second consecutive win in that category as her 2014 album Eve won last year. Produced by Kidjo and long-time production partner Jean Hebrail, Sings showcases Kidjo's collaboration with the 110 piece Orchestre Philharmonique Du Luxembourg, led by renowned conductor and composer Gast Waltzing. Kidjo reimagines nine classic songs from her 24 year repertoire and two new songs ('Otishe' and 'Mamae' from the Eve sessions), blending European classical traditions with the powerful rhythmic sounds of her native West Africa. Along with the orchestra, Kidjo's additional players include Christian McBride and Massimo Biolcati on upright basses; Lionel Loueke, Dominic James and David Laborier on guitars; Magatte Sow, Crespin Tpikiti and Benoit Avihoue on percussion; Tuelo Kgobokoe Tsholofetso and Mokubung, background vocals; and Gast Waltzing, flugelhorn solo on 'Samba Pa Ti.' Angelique Kidjo's Sings was released on 429 Records.

Angélique Kidjo will headline Carnegie Hall on November 5 in a tribute to 'Mama Africa,' the great South African singer and political activist Miriam Makeba-whom Kidjo cites as her own role model and career-long inspiration. In the preface to her autobiography Spirit Rising: My Life, My Music, out now on HarperCollins, Desmond Tutu writes, 'Angélique was herself inspired by Miriam Makeba, Mother Africa, and she in her turn is now an inspiration to others with her message that, yes, the sky is the limit, and she urges them to reach for the stars.'
