The Greek National Opera (GNO) presents the premiere of a new production of Verdi's Falstaff, staged by acclaimed opera director and Artistic Director of the Glyndebourne Festival Stephen Langridge and conducted by Pier Giorgio Morandi on its high-quality streaming platform, GNO TV, beginning today June 29, 2023 at tv.nationalopera.gr. Falstaff was filmed in Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens during its premiere run from January 26, 2023-February 12, 2023.

 The Greek National Opera is reviving acclaimed Italian director Leo Muscato’s production of Verdi’s Nabucco led by internationally acclaimed Italian conductor Paolo Carignani in his GNO debut.

Angel Blue has withdrawn from the last three performances of Aida due to a family illness.  Christina Nilsson will perform the title role on 23, 27 May and 1 June, making her house debut alongside a sensational cast in Robert Carsen’s 5-star production, conducted by Mark Elder. 

 The Greek National Opera’s 2023-24 season, curated by GNO Artistic Director Giorgos Koumendakis, features seven new opera and ballet productions including the first Wagner production to be staged at the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center, two co-productions, and one newly commissioned opera, as well as four revivals of past productions, tribute celebrations for Maria Callas’s centennial anniversary, and the third Artist on the Composer program.

The Royal Opera has announced several casting updates for its upcoming season.

The Royal Opera House today announces that sadly Jonas Kaufmann has withdrawn from all performances of Cavalleria rusticana. Mr. Kaufmann is continuing to recover from COVID-19 and is not well enough to sing the remaining performances.  

The Royal Opera House today announced that Ermonela Jaho has withdrawn from all performances of Pagliacci due to illness. The role of Nedda will now be performed by Polish soprano Aleksandra Kurzak - in addition to singing the role of Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana. 

The Greek National Opera’s 2022-23 season curated by GNO Artistic Director Giorgos Koumendakis will feature ten new opera and ballet productions, one newly commissioned opera, five revivals of past productions, music concerts, major co-productions with some of the world’s foremost opera houses, collaborations with leading conductors and more.
