Chelsea Opera joins forces with Kindred Spirits, Inc. to present this fresh and dramatic telling of the Christmas story. WQXR's Terrance McKnight and WBGO's Sheila Andersonco-host this 30th anniversary production of Bending Towards the Light ... A Jazz Nativity, featuring jazz greats Ingrid Jensen, Steve Wilson, Wycliffe Gordon, and 93-year-old Latin congo player, Candido. San Francisco Opera Announces Details of New Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera; Opens Feb. 2016

San Francisco Opera today announced new details of its soon-to-be-completed $21 million renovation of 38,000 square feet in the Veterans Building's fourth floor and basement named the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera. Adjacent to the War Memorial Opera House, the Wilsey Center for Opera is scheduled to open in late February 2016, and consolidates most of the Company's operations into a single campus in the vibrant and emerging arts district of San Francisco's Civic Center. The 1932 Beaux Arts-designed Veterans Building recently reopened in September following a 26-month, City-financed $156 million seismic retrofit and renovation of the historic Herbst Theatre, Green Room, meeting rooms, offices and corridors throughout the first three floors.

Bravo to the Collegiate Chorale for taking things up a notch--changing its name to MasterVoices and taking on an ambitious season that opened with a semi-staged production of Gilbert & Sullivan's THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE at New York City Center, with a game cast including some top Broadway performers and opera singer Deborah Voigt. But this is the house that City Center ENCORES! built over the last 20 years—including originating the long-running Broadway production of Kander & Ebb's CHICAGO—and they should have known to bring in a stronger director to help the evening jell.

Well-Strung has been on quite the roller coaster ride this year. They sold out their summer run at the Art House in Provincetown, with their show Summer Lovin' and got to perform at a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton when their song 'Chelsea's Mom' went viral. Both the opening, and the event were simultaneously (not planned) scheduled.
