A fanfare by New York City trumpet stars, a premiere of newly discovered recordings from 1961 by Louis Armstrong, discussion of that music by dean of jazz critics Dan Morgenstern (who was there) and Armstrong House Museum Archivist Ricky Riccardi, a proclamation from NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and a soul-food reception will comprise the free-to-the-public International Jazz Day party, today, April 30, co-hosted by the Louis Armstrong House Museum and the Jazz Journalists Association.

Broken Nose Theatre to Present BEAUTIFUL BROKEN, Opening 3/29

Broken Nose Theatre (BNT) will present the world premiere of Beautiful Broken, a new play by Artistic Director Benjamin Brownson, in the Upstairs Mainstage at the Greenhouse Theater Center, 2257 North Lincoln Ave., March 22 - April 21. Directed by Thomas Murray (artistic director of the Waltzing Mechanics), Beautiful Broken runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Preview performances are March 23, 24, 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. Opening night is Friday, March 29 at 8 p.m. Tickets to Beautiful Broken range from $15-$25 and are available online at www.greenhousetheater.org or by calling 773.404.7336.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts announces an all-star summer line-up set to kick off in June. The summer will feature the legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim, jazz songstress Diana Krall, instrumentalist Chris Botti, the multi-talented Steve Martin and many more. Tickets to all performances go on sale Friday, April 27. Season sponsors include Bank of Nevada and the Las Vegas Design Center.

The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire, Illinois, north of Chicago, has an enormous subscription base, deep pockets, a talented and experienced in-house design team and a film property to adapt that touches on a number of important, stage-worthy themes (military patriotism, family, nostalgia, a timely re-visit to accusations of communism in America, parenthood, mid-century entertainment history and censorship, both military and network). And the show's lawyers have acquired the rights to a Hit Parade of jukebox-musical-worthy tunes. But is that enough to make a new stage musical out of the 1991 film 'For The Boys'?
Doctors Symphony Orchestra Opens New Season at Ebell, 11/12

Ivan Shulman, Music Director of the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra (LADSO), has announced the orchestra will kick off its 2010 - 2011 (57th Annual) Season, in their new permanent artistic home at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles. During the course of LADSO's Inaugural Season in residence at The Ebell of Los Angeles, the orchestra will present two concert programs in the Grand Lounge, one on November 12, 2010, and another on March 20, 2011. The season will culminate with a performance in the Wilshire Ebell Theatre on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
