Charles Bloom's 'Christmas And You' Wins UK's Stephen Sondheim Society Christmas Competition

Composer Charles Bloom's 'Christmas and You' has been selected as a winning song in London's Sondheim Society Christmas Competition. Forty-five entries were anonymously screened by a judging panel, which ultimately tied two songs for the prize. 'Christmas and You' will be performed on December 16th at the Sondheim Society's holiday celebration in the Leicester Square Theatre.
Two New Wineries Open in Traverse City Area

Two new wineries open their tasting room doors to the public this weekend in the Traverse City area. Three Fires Wine and Skipping Stone Cellars are located next to each other at the West Bayshore Village on M22 at Hilltop Road south of Suttons Bay in Leelanau County. A grand opening celebration is planned for Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the tasting rooms from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The York Theatre Company concludes the Winter 2013 Musicals in Mufti Series with the 1955 musical gem, Silk Stockings that has book by George S. Kaufman, Leueen MacGrath and Abe Burrows and music & lyrics by Cole Porter. Directed by Stuart Ross, and with music direction by David Snyder, the production will feature Erin Davie, Ben Davis, Erick Devine, Erica Dorfler, David Garrison, Leah Hocking, Andrew Kluger, Mark Price, Kilty Reidy, Danny Rutigliano, Alet Taylor, and Stephen Wallem. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater's Artistic Director Molly Smith has announced that this July 2012 D.C.-area arts manager and artist David Snider will become the company's Director of Artistic Programming. Snider will be leaving Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT), where he has served since 2005 as producing artistic director and CEO, to bring his multi-faceted, award-winning talents to the artistic team of Arena Stage.

Composer/lyricist Scott Evan Davis will appear with special guests for one show only at Don't Tell Mama on March 14 at 8pm. Davis will present the music from his recently released debut recording - Cautiously Optimistic: The Music of Scott Evan Davis (Sonic Landscapes Music). In addition to all the music from his recording, Davis will introduce the opening number from an original, commissioned musical he's writing for PS 94's autistic children's program. The song is titled "If the World Only Knew."
