59E59 Theaters will welcome playwright Lauren Gunderson (Bauer) back to the 5A Season with NY premiere of her award-winning play I AND YOU, directed by Sean Daniels, and produced by Merrimack Repertory Theatre in association with Richard Winkler.

Unwanted pregnancy and terminal illness haunt the flinty girls at the center of two gritty new plays by playwrights Ruby Rae Spiegel and Lauren Gunderson now receiving their New England premieres at Company One in Boston and Merrimack Rep in Lowell.

Merrimack Repertory Theatre is following up on the overwhelming success of the season opener, 'The Lion,' with a regional premiere directed by the company's new artistic director Sean Daniels. 'I and You' by Lauren Gunderson tells the story of two very different teenagers, Caroline and Anthony, who struggle to connect as they work on a school project about Walt Whitman's poetry. Over the course of the play and through a stunning surprise ending, they find that there is more that unites them than divides them. New Repertory Theatre joins the nationwide celebration of the late playwright Arthur Miller's 100th birthday with the Boston area premiere of BROKEN GLASS, one of his last plays. In keeping with New Rep's season theme of "Identity," Miller's Olivier Award-winning and Tony-nominated drama is a multi-faceted exploration of what it means to be Jewish, set against the backdrop of the ascent of the Nazi Party in Germany in the days following Kristallnacht in November, 1938. A stellar cast under the thoughtful direction of Artistic Director Jim Petosa inhabits Miller's characters, intuiting their emotional journeys with remarkable authenticity.

The production marks the first full-length professional production for Gandiello, an up-and-coming playwright whose work has received considerable national attention from playwriting conferences and workshops.

Daniel MacIvor's play 'The Best Brothers' quickly became a hit in Canada after its 2012 world premiere at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Merrimack Repertory Theatre will produce its East Coast premiere (and second production ever in the United States) this January, directed by Charles Towers.
