Geva Stages World Premiere of WOMEN IN JEOPARDY!, Now thru 3/22

By:

Geva Theatre Center presents the world premiere of Women in Jeopardy! - a fun and flirtatious new comedy by playwright Wendy MacLeod, directed by Sean Daniels. Women in Jeopardy! begins performances tonight, February 24, opens February 28 and runs in the Elaine P. Wilson Mainstage through March 22.

Thelma and Louise meets The First Wives Club in this fun and flirtatious new comedy by Rochester-born playwright Wendy MacLeod. Divorcees Mary and Jo are suspicious of their friend Liz's new dentist boyfriend. He's not just a weirdo; he may be a serial killer! After all, his hygienist just disappeared. Trading their wine glasses for spy glasses, imaginations run wild as the ladies try to discover the truth and save their friend in a hilarious off-road adventure.

Wendy MacLeod's play, The House of Yes, became an award-winning Miramax film starring Parker Posey and was produced at many theatres including the Magic Theater, Soho Rep, the Washington Shakespeare Company, the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, and the Gate Theatre in London. Her other plays include Sin (The Goodman, Second Stage), Schoolgirl Figure (The Goodman), The Water Children and Juvenilia (Playwrights Horizons), and Things Being What They Are (Seattle Repertory Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre). Her play This Flight Tonight was seen in Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, which premiered in L.A., and was seen across the country and at NYC's Minetta Lane Theatre. She was the first playwright chosen for The Writers' Room residency at The Arden Theatre in Philadelphia, where she began Women in Jeopardy! Women in Jeopardy! was a featured reading during Geva's 2013-2014 Season. The Ballad of Bonnie Prince Chucky premiered at His Majesty's Theater in Aberdeen, Scotland and opened this season at A.C.T.'s Young Conservatory. Her prose has appeared in The New York Times, The Dramatist, POETRY, on Salon, The Rumpus, McSweeney's Internet Tendency and All Things Considered. A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, she is the James E. Michael Playwright-in-Residence at Kenyon College and Artistic Director of the Kenyon Playwrights Conference.

Making their Geva Theatre Center debuts in Women in Jeopardy! are Laurie Wells (Broadway/National tours of Mamma Mia! and Swing!) as Liz; Julia Brothers (Broadway's Relatively Speaking) as Liz's friend, Jo; Liam Craig (Broadway's Boeing-Boeing) as Liz's dentist beau, Jackson; and Ashley Shamoon (feature films Trees, The Space In-Between, Lock & Key) as Amanda. Geva also welcomes back Rochester natives Jennifer Cody (Broadway productions of A Christmas Story, Shrek, The Pajama Game, Beauty and the Beast and Cats, and last season's production of The Odd Couple at Geva) as Liz's friend, Mary; and Scott Rad Brown (feature films Jumping Out of Windows and A Night and a Switchblade) as Amanda's boyfriend, Trenner.

Women in Jeopardy! is directed by Sean Daniels and the design team includes Michael Raiford (scenic design), Amanda Doherty (costume design), Brian J. Lilienthal (lighting design) and David Remedios (sound design).

The 2014-2015 Wilson Mainstage Season is sponsored by ESL Federal Credit Union. Women in Jeopardy! is produced with support from Lead Co-Producer First Niagara; Associate Producers Madeline's Catering and the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, and Media Sponsor WARM 101.3. Women in Jeopardy! is an Edgerton Foundation New American Plays Award Recipient.

Women in Jeopardy! begins performances February 24 and runs in the Mainstage through March 22.
