Westport Country Playhouse has announced that applications are now being accepted for its 2022 Joanne Woodward Internship Program for theater career aspirants. Interns enhance their professional skills and gain on-the-job experience working directly with Playhouse senior staff during summer months.

Westport Country Playhouse announces updates to its 2022 season playing from April through October, including a change in the production lineup, the addition of two new directors, and a shorter run for four of the five shows.

Westport Country Playhouse has changed the date of “Family Fun Day” to Sunday, October 31, from 11 to 3 p.m., due to inclement weather forecast for October 30, the previously announced date. “Family Fun Day” features activities for kids, treats, food trucks, community food drive, beer tastings, and costume parade for kids and dogs.

Westport Country Playhouse announces its upcoming 92nd Season, from April to November 2022, featuring five productions, staged before a live audience, under the artistic direction of Mark Lamos. “The season will make you feel, think, and spark conversation,” said Lamos.

Westport Country Playhouse has selected two HD videos from its archives of performances captured live on stage for streaming on demand. The Playhouse’s 2018 production of “Man of La Mancha,” the Tony Award-winning musical following Don Quixote’s quest for “The Impossible Dream,” will stream on-demand from Monday, August 23-Sunday, September 5.

The infectious track and video are the band’s third this year as they prepare to release their sixth studio album LIFEFORMS on September 24. Additionally, this Saturday, July 31, the band will be performing at Lollapalooza (Lakeshore Stage, 7:45pm).

Westport Country Playhouse's New Works Initiative will present the second play in its 2021 season with a virtual workshop of “Culture Shock,” written by Gloria Majule, and directed by Taylor Reynolds, on Wednesday, July 14.

Westport Country Playhouse will present “An Evening with Ali Stroker,” 2019 Tony Award winner for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Ado Annie in the Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma!, on Saturday July 24, at 8 p.m. 

Westport Country Playhouse will add to its 2021 Season lineup the HD video production from its archives, “Of Mice and Men,” by Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize-winning author John Steinbeck, streaming on demand, Monday, September 13 through Sunday, September 26.

Westport Country Playhouse Radio Theater, a free-of-charge broadcast series, in partnership with WSHU Public Radio, will present the new audio play combining humor and suspense, “Special Delivery,” on Saturday, July 10, at 1:06 p.m. (following a news update at top of the hour), with a rebroadcast on Sunday, July 11, at 4:06 p.m.

Westport Country Playhouse, closed since March 2020 due to the pandemic, will kick-off its 90th anniversary year by bringing patrons back into its Jason Robards Theatre for a one-night-only virtual production of the new comedy, “Tiny House,” projected on a big screen mounted above the stage.

Ninety years ago on June 29, 1931, Westport Country Playhouse opened its doors to its very first stage production. This year, on the exact same day, the Playhouse will mark its 90th anniversary with the opening of the virtual production, “Tiny House,” written by Michael Gotch, and directed by Mark Lamos, Playhouse artistic director. The regional premiere of the timely comedy about escaping urban life in an isolated mountain paradise will stream on demand from Tuesday, June 29 through Sunday, July 18.

Tickets will be on sale on Friday, June 18 at 10 AM local time.
