In video-puppetry extravaganza STEVE OF TOMORROW, a couchsurfing time traveler Steve appears at a crammed apartment shared by sci-fi blogger Ralph and his partner Scott. Steve lands in the middle of a media frenzy surrounding a corporate-produced hurricane. What ensues is a split-screen dark comedy about miscommunication in the age of ever-present media and a democracy interrupted by a flurry of pop-up windows.   (more...)

Nearly nine out of every ten seats were filled at last month's inaugural Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival, a major success that attracted a total audience of more than 14,000 to 83 different festival events, sold out more than 80 percent of its shows, and played to 87 percent capacity over the course of its 12-day run, January 14-25. The Puppet Lab, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary, is St. Ann's Warehouse's experimental haven for artists developing interdisciplinary projects for puppet and object theater. Under the direction of Lab Directors Matthew Acheson and Krissy Smith, participating artists and their collaborators have met weekly over several months to develop projects, share puppetry elements and other design and technical ideas, discuss plot structure and character development, and work on narrative. They will present their works in the annual Labapalooza! festival, which will run May 23 - 26 at St. Ann's Warehouse. (more...)
