On Thursday, August 5, cast members from Disney's THE LION KING on Broadway celebrated the return of a wax replica of the beloved baboon shaman 'Rafiki' to Madame Tussauds. The figure, which was originally unveiled at Tussauds in 2006, is dressed in a replica of the original Rafiki costume designed by Julie Taymor, who won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design and Best Direction of a Musical for THE LION KING. The figure was created by Madame Tussauds Studio artists with the help of costume and makeup artists from the London production of THE LION KING.

Goldberg appeared in a series of surprise cameos throughout the 8pm performance. The appearance marks a return for Goldberg to the legit stage and her Lion King roots, having originated the voice of Shenzi the Hyena more than 15 years ago in the 1994 Disney animated feature.

Rodriguez and Pimentel made their Broadway debuts last night, September 29. Tavarez will make her Broadway debut tonight, September 30 and Jones will make his Broadway debut on tomorrow, October 1. The production moved in its entirety, including all 52-cast members and the entire 24-member orchestra, from the New Amsterdam Theatre on June 4, 2006, and began performances nine days later at its current home, the Minskoff Theatre on June 13, 2006. The move followed the completion of custom renovations to accommodate the Tony Award-winning production.
