Vineyard Presents Invite Only Reading of Kander And Ebb's SCOTTSBORO BOYS 6/26, Stroman To Helm

The Vineyard Theatre presents an invitation-only reading of its upcoming musical THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS -- with music and lyrics by Tony Award-winners John Kander and Fred Ebb (CABARET, CHICAGO, KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN) and a book by David Thompson -- featuring John Cullum (URINETOWN), Brandon Victor Dixon (THE COLOR PURPLE) and Colman Domingo (PASSING STRANGE) at The Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) on Friday, June 26 at 3pm.

Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman (THE PRODUCERS) is set to direct and choreograph.

THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS explores the famous 'Scottsboro" case of the 1930's - in which a group of young African American teenagers were unjustly accused of attacking two women - and their attempt to prove their innocence. THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS is a stirring and provocative new work of musical theatre, and reunites the Vineyard with Kander, Thompson and Stroman, who previously collaborated on the company's revival of FLORA, THE RED MENACE.

The full cast for the reading will be Josh Breckenridge, John Cullum, Brandon Victor Dixon, Colman Domingo, Jared Grimes, Malik Hammond, Jared Joseph, James Lane, JC Montgomery, Brenda Pressley, Christian White, and Dashaun Young. The reading features musical direction by David Loud.

As previously announced, THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS is currently in development for the Vineyard's 2010 Season.

The Vineyard kicks off its 2009-10 Season with Off-Broadway premiere of A BOY AND HIS SOUL, written and performed by Colman Domingo. Mr. Domingo is best-known for his performance in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical PASSING STRANGE, and he will be seen this summer in Encores! revival of THE WIZ. Set to begin previews September 9, prior to its official press opening September 24, A BOY AND HIS SOUL is a moving and hilarious new play that explores the life-experiences of a young African-American man in 1980s Philadelphia, propelled by the beat of classic soul. Tony Kelly is set to direct.
