Indie-Pop Musical Kicks Off the Kitchen Theatre's 28th Season

Kitchen Theatre Company begins its 28th Season with a musical! Girlfriend, with book by Todd Almond and music & lyrics by Matthew Sweet, is a story about first love, told through the music of singer-songwriter Matthew Sweet. Performances of Girlfriend begin at the Kitchen Theatre Company in the Percy Browning Performance Space on September 9th and run through September 30th.

Mike and Will have just graduated from high school and couldn't be more different: Mike is an athlete, headed off to college in the fall. Will is a quiet boy who doesn't know where he's headed next. But when they start to get to know each other that summer, everything changes for both of them. Based on the album of the same name by Matthew Sweet, Girlfriend captures the thrill of first love-and how we discover each other and ourselves through the mixtapes we make.

Vassar & New York Stage and Film have announced the next wave of casting for the highly anticipated 34th Powerhouse Season in Poughkeepsie, NY, which starts this Friday, June 22 and runs through Sunday, July 29. Actors joining the annual summer play development incubator include Tony Award nominee Raul Esparza, Tony Award winner Alice Ripley, Tony Award nominee Denee Benton, Tony Award nominee Lauren Worsham, Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman, Noah Galvin, Frankie J. LCT3/Lincoln Center Theater will open its 2017-2018 season with AFTER THE BLAST, a new play by Zoe Kazan, to be directed by Lila Neugebauer, beginning performances Saturday, October 7 and running for six weeks only through Sunday, November 19 at the Claire Tow Theater (150 West 65 Street). Opening night is Monday, October 23.

The Strangest is an absurdist murder mystery loosely inspired by the unnamed Arab killed in Albert Camus' classic novel, The Stranger. Experience French Algiers on the brink of revolution, and witness three Arab brothers vie for the love of the same woman. Their bitter rivalry ends only when one is gunned down by a French stranger.Written by Betty Shamieh ( The Black Eyed, Roar, Fit for a Queen) and directed by May Adrales ( Vietgone, Luce).
Mercer County Artists Award Winners Announced

The arts community was out in force on Feb. 22 for the Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony for "Mercer County Artists 2017," now on display at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) through March 23. The Gallery at Mercer is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on the college's West Windsor Campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road. (The gallery is closed during Spring Break, March 13 to 19.)
