Lauren Gunderson's SILENT SKY Comes To Arizona Theatre Company Stages

Lewis & Clark College in partnership with PETE, are pleased to present a four-day celebration and exploration of the many aspects of Anton Chekhov's work,  and the art of contemporary dramatic translation. A culmination of two years of research and performance, the symposium will feature readings of Št?pan Šimek's new translations of The Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya, The Seagull and The Cherry Orchard. Each piece was workshopped with PETE to collaboratively  translate not just the words, but the ACTION of the plays. Expect the distinct, energetic theatricality of PETE artists and a good show of some of Portland's most accomplished local talent.

Rubicon Theatre, a not-for-profit professional regional theatre company in Ventura, California, announces its production of WEST SIDE STORY (Book by ARTHUR LAURENTS, Music by LEONARD BERNSTEIN, Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM), to be performed by the students of the Education Department's MUSICAL THEATRE INTENSIVE, featuring at twenty-one piece orchestra conducted by DANIEL NEWMAN-LESSLER. This production is directed by BRIAN McDONALD, Musical Direction by MIRIAM ARICHEA and choreography is by CAROLANNE MARANO. Set and lights are designed by David King. Portland Shakespeare Project to Present THE TEMPEST & THE ADMIRABLE CRICHTON in July

With William Shakespeare's farewell masterpiece, The Tempest, Portland Shakespeare Project will entertain summer audiences with some of the world's most glorious poetry in this production directed by Michael Mendelson. A staged reading of The Admirable Crichton by J.M. Barrie will serve as a delightful three-day theatrical complement, directed by Jon Kretzu. Both shows will be performed on the Alder Stage at Artists Repertory Theatre. Tickets are on sale through Artists Rep's Box Office. Performances of The Tempest are Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm. Performances of The Admirable Crichton are Tuesday, July 22 and 29 at 7:30pm and Sunday, August 3 at 7:30pm. Tonight, June 29, pianist Vladimir Khomyakov, silver medal winner of the 2013 Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition, will perform Prokofiev's famous Piano Concerto No. 3 alongside the Houston Symphony as part of the ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights Series at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The concert will also feature the popular Overture to Verdi's La Forza del Destino and Brahms' Symphony No. 1. Making his Houston Symphony debut, young conductor Aziz Shokhakimov has received international acclaim as a talented young conductor, leading European orchestras and earning top honors at festivals and competitions.

If there were an International Idol ... The José Iturbi International Music Competition would be it. José Iturbi was recognized as the world's greatest classical pianist during the 1930's - 1970's. He appeared in several Hollywood films of the 1940s, notably playing himself in the 1943 musical, Thousands Cheer and in the 1945 film, Anchors Aweigh. He worked with legendary talents including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Gene Kelly, Cornel Wilde, and many more. Today, the name José Iturbi has a legacy that still lives through The José Iturbi International Music Competition. It is appropriate that one of the most sought after awards by those who have devoted their lives to music, be dedicated to this remarkable man.

The José Iturbi International Music Competition awards over $100,000 in cash prizes includes two first place prizes of $10,000 in each category (one for a pianist and one for a singer). In addition to the traditional prizes awarded, there are two People's Choice prizes of $5,000, which are voted on during the final competition round by the 'live' audience.
