New York Public Library for the Performing Arts Will Celebrate New York & London Theatre in CURTAIN UP Exhibition

New York's Broadway and London's West End have long been the biggest destinations for live theater, and now, a new exhibition opening at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts honors the rich creative talent and award-winning productions in both cities. Co-curated by The Library for the Performing Arts and the V&A, where the exhibition debuted earlier this year, in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London highlights how the theatre districts of both cities have flourished and developed since 1976. The exhibition, which opens at The Library for the Performing Arts in Lincoln Center onOctober 31, 2016  and is on display through June 30, 2017.

Produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, this year's Easter Bonnet Competition (#BroadwayBonnets) was held at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre (200 West 45th Street), home to Disney's The Lion King. Featuring performances by more than 230 Broadway and Off-Broadway singers and dancers, the Broadway Inspirational Voices and a stellar lineup of Broadway favorites, this year's fundraising total was a whopping $5,528,568!

At the 2016 edition of BROADWAY BACKWARDS, Broadway legend Chita Rivera brought her own brand of 'razzle-dazzle' to Kander and Ebb's 'All I Care About is Love' from CHICAGO. The actress delivered an unforgettable take on swarmy lawyer Billy Flynn, surrounded by a bevy of feathery beauties, many from the original 1996 CHICAGO revival cast, including Nili Bassman, Mindy Cooper, Mamie Duncan-Gibbs, Gabriela Garcia, Mary Ann Lamb, Dana Moore and Solange Sandy. Dancers Over 40 to Celebrate Verdon/Fosse Legacy, 3/23

Wednesday, March 23rd, DO40 brings together gypsies from many generations (and many who are DO40 members) to celebrate all things Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon at St. Luke's Theater, 308 West 46th Street, 7pm.  Featured throughout the evening:  Nicole Fosse, Valarie Pettiford, Harvey Evans, Dana Moore, Lloyd Culbreath, Gene Foote, George Marcy, Diana Laurenson, Dick Korthaze, Pam Sousa and Mimi Quillin.  DO40 members Kevin Winkler and John Gilvey are both more than half way through writing their books on this dynamic duo and they will discuss how they came to write about them in a special panel with Nicole Fosse, and a Q & A during the segment.   Winker's book is titled Big Deal: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical, and Gilvey's, Brains and Talent: The Life and Allure of Legendary Entertainer Gwen Verdon.  We are working with the Fosse/Verdon Legacy, LLC to bring you more information on their workshops, and present a moving history, through the eyes (and feet!) of those who knew them best: Broadway dancers.

Dancers Over 40's last event of 2015, the 7th Annual Legacy Awards presentation, was its most joyous. This holiday celebration and awards event was held last night, December 7th, at LIPS Restaurant, 227 East 56th Street. This year's event was hosted by Richard Skipper, with live entertainment by cabaret legend Barbara Minkus and Dames at Sea star Danny Gardner along with other surprise guests. Steps Beyond announces another of its lively and informative Artists Talks with three 'Broadway Babies' who can rightly be called The Women of Fosse - Diane Laurenson, Dana Moore and Mimi Quillin. Laurenson and Moore have appeared in five Fosse shows between them - Sweet Charity, Chicago, Fosse, Dancin', and Big Deal, and Quillin performed in Sweet Charity and was also assistant to Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. The Broadway veterans will share fascinating stories about the great choreographer, drawn from their personal experiences and highlighted by film clips, followed by a Q&A session and reception. On Tuesday, March 27th, Rosie's Theater Kids held an event called 'Passing It On,' where the Kids performed a show which they learned in tandem with mega mentors like Audra McDonald, BD Wong, Brandon Victor Dixon, Dana Moore, and Derick K Grant, among others. The show was held at Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater @ 7pm, and the event honored Tom Viola, Executive Director of Broadway Cares / Equity Fights Aids. Check out photos from the event below!

In March of 2011, President Barack Obama honored Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival with the National Medal of Arts at the White House. In the spring, the Pillow expanded worldwide access to dance with the launch of Dance Interactive, an online video resource and game, recently called 'priceless' and 'the closest thing the dance world has to an online museum' by Sarah Kaufman of The Washington Post.
