One of the most successful musicals of all time, Dan Goggin's NUNSENSE will celebrate its silver birthday this summer with a 25th anniversary production presented by the Off-Broadway Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Manhattan) -- where the hilarious musical comedy about the Little Sisters of Hoboken debuted Off-Broadway in 1985 - with performances beginning June 15 and running through July 18, 2010, it has been announced by Angelina Fiordellisi, Artistic Director of Cherry Lane Theatre and herself a former member of the cast of NUNSENSE in 1987.

I've yet to hear anyone complain that the trouble with musical theatre today is that too many shows are based on greeting cards, but given the success of the empire known as Nunsense, I'm surprised that more composers, lyricists and bookwriters haven't turned to the catalogues of Hallmark for inspiration.

This summer, the hilariously funny, gender-bending installment of the collection, Nunsense A-Men!, is set to entertainment audiences at The Way off Broadway Dinner Theatre. The production opens June 25th and runs through August 29th.

All the records that exist support the conclusion. Long-time members of the Board of Directors agree. There has never been a completely sold out performance of a play at Gretna Theatre. All that changed on Sunday when the Gretna Theatre production of NUNSENSE starring Sally Struthers broke all box office records for the 83-year-old company.

Tickets are now on sale for NUNSENSE which will begin preview Off-Broadway at the Cherry Lane Theatre on June 13. The show will officially open on June 20. This production marks the 25th anniversary of NUNSENSE. The show is written and directed by Dan Goggin.
