Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of Not About Me, written and directed by acclaimed playwright Eduardo Machado. Not About Me will begin previews Friday, January 13th with Opening Night set for Wednesday January 18th.

Theater for the New City will present its 48th annual Thunderbird American Dancers Pow Wow and Dance Concert from January 13 to 22, 2023.

August 21, 1911, wasn't just another day at the Louvre in Paris. Security guards discovered that the Mona Lisa, at a time when art work was being photographed, was missing. Who took the Mona Lisa? The cry spread across newspapers and nations.

From December 22 to January 8, Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of 'Darkness After Night: Ukraine,' a play written and directed by Stephan Morrow that is set in the contemporary war between Russia and Ukraine.

You will never look at a homeless person the same way after seeing 'The Very Last Dance of Homeless Joe,' a new play by actor/playwright/comedian/visual artist Rich Courage that will be presented by Theater for the New City December 1 to 18. It's a character study of nine archetypal homeless people, written in lyrical realism by a playwright who has, himself, been homeless.

With the actor suffering from acute laryngitis, Theater for the New City has been forced to postpone the return engagement of Ronald 'Smokey' Stevens in his one-man, two character production, 'I Just Want to Tell Somebody.' The piece was scheduled to be re-mounted November 10-27, 2022 and will now take stage June 1-18, 2023.

Theater for the New City (TNC) will emphasize Covid safety in this year's Village Halloween Costume Ball, presenting a hybrid (indoor/outdoor) celebration on October 31 to delight its community, young and old, and to celebrate the creativity that comes with the season. 

George Bartenieff – actor, director, and co-founder of Theater for the New City – will be remembered at one of theatres he called home, La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club. Bartenieff’s life and work will be celebrated at Coffeehouse Chronicles #166 on October 1, 2022 at 3pm, at the Ellen Stewart Theatre.

We are living in a time of deliberate campaigns of voter suppression through a variety of means.  Coincidentally, or maybe not so coincidentally, we're living in a time when women's rights are increasingly under attack.  All of which makes it seem obligatory to revisit the life struggles of historic female activists and be inspired by their brave campaigns for fundamental rights.

Due to a cast change, 'Hedda Gabler' must postpone its opening by one week. The production now begins September 29, runs through October 9. Sean Phillips takes over role of Eilert Lovborg.
