AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards®, will play the Music Hall at Fair Park January 31 - February 12, 2017, for two weeks presented by Dallas Summer Musicals.

Playwrights Horizons has announced complete casting for THE LIGHT YEARS, the world premiere of a new play written by Drama Desk Award winner Hannah Bos (The Open House, Jacuzzi, Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2) and Obie Award winner Paul Thureen (Jacuzzi, Blood Play, Buddy Cop 2), directed and developed by Obie Award winner Oliver Butler (Jacuzzi, The Open House, Blood Play), made by The Debate Society.

Amelie A New Musical, based on the 2001 French film Amelie, has a magical charm that reminds one of Matilda, at least in the beginning scenes. We meet the young Amelie (Savvy Crawford) who enters through a picture frame (see photo at left) and proceeds to tell her story, quite sad in fact, for she is saddled with a heart condition and difficult parents who keep her isolated and unhappy. Her mother meets a tragic, almost freakish demise and Amelie is brought up by her father who lives in a world of his own. As she matures, she realizes her lot in life will be to make other people happy. Now onstage at the Ahmanson Theatre through January 15, Amelie A New Musical has some wonderfully imaginative moments and a sparkling cast under the fast-paced direction of Pam MacKinnon.

Center Theatre Group's production of 'Amelie, A New Musical' at the Ahmanson Theatre opened December 16 and continues through January 15, 2017. Based on the motion picture written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, 'Amelie, A New Musical' will have its Broadway premiere at the Walter Kerr Theatre, beginning performances on March 9, 2017 and opening April 3, 2017. An American in Paris, the most awarded new musical of 2015 and winner of four Tony Awards, comes to Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts this holiday season. The Orlando engagement will play the Walt Disney Theater December 13 -18, 2016. Tickets are on sale to the general public tomorrow, Friday, September 23, 2016.

In anticipation of "Amelie, A New Musical" coming to the Ahmanson Theatre, Center Theatre Group and The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles will present a special screening of the five-time Oscar-nominated film "Amelie" today, December 3 at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The Boston One-Minute Play Festival (#1MPF) returns with a twist: the sixth annual festival will celebrate the works of all women-identified playwrights and directors, as part of 1MPF's National Women's Initiative. Boston joins New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, South Florida, and other cities including an all women-identified cohort of artists this season. The aim of this program is to get a cohort of women-identified theatremakers in the room, uphold the important themes, ideas, conversations, and dialogues that bubble up to the surface, and hold space for valuable community conversations.

Based on the original novel Madame Sousatzka written by Bernice Rubens, SOUSATZKA is set in London, England in 1982 and tells the story of a musical prodigy torn between two powerful women from vastly different worlds: his mother, a political refugee from South Africa and his piano teacher, a brilliant eccentric with a shattered past. These two proud, iconoclastic women must ultimately cross cultural and racial divides to find common ground, or else jeopardize the young musician's destiny.
