Gulfshore Playhouse Welcomes New Director of Education

Gulfshore Playhouse welcomes their new Director of Education, Leah Shaeffer. Leah joins Gulfshore Playhouse following completing an Education Apprenticeship with Cleveland Play House. Leah earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Education and a teaching license in Drama/Theatre, grades Pre-K through 12, from Ohio Wesleyan University. Leah has worked as an actor and teaching artist with various youth theatre companies.

Shakespeare's Globe to Bring HAMLET, KING LEAR to Folger Theatre's 2014-15 Season; Lineup Announced!

Folger Theatre Artistic Producer Janet Alexander Griffin today announced the 2014/15 season. With six full Shakespeare productions on stage at the Folger to celebrate the Bard's 450th, Folger Theatre will start the upcoming season with two special, limited engagements by London's Shakespeare's Globe. First, the acclaimed staging of Hamlet, seen at the Folger in 2012, returns in late July for just three performances as part of their Globe to Globe Hamlet, the ambitious two-year tour bringing the Danish prince to every country in the world. Then, once again in a September residency, Shakespeare's Globe will perform King Lear for eighteen shows. Joseph Marcell (TV's The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Jacques in Folger Theatre's 2007 As You Like It) plays the title role.

BSO Sets Cast for Symphonic Premiere of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, 5/29-6/1

In a new collaboration with Washington, D.C.'s Folger Theatre, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop bring together an all-star cast of stage, film and television for Director Edward Berkeley's adaptation of the William Shakespeare comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Featuring John Bolger of 'General Hospital' and Linda Powell of 'Chicago Fire,' Midsummer will premiere with the BSO on May 29 at the Music Center at Strathmore, and May 30 through June 1 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Gulfshore Playhouse in Naples, Florida is has announced the arrival of Tony-nominated and Olivier Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig who has come to see their production of Ken Ludwig's The Game's Afoot, which is breaking box office records at Gulfshore Playhouse.

Opening the 2014-2015 season is The Mountaintop by Katori Hall, playing October 4-19, with $30 previews on October 2nd and 3rd. On the eve of his assassination, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. returns to room 306 at the Lorraine Motel. A feisty and attractive maid arrives with coffee and turns out to be much more than she appears, prompting him to confront his life, his legacy, and the future of his country. Playwright Katori Hall invites us to take a closer look at the man behind the myth: a flesh and blood human, who, despite his flaws and spiritual fatigue, worked tirelessly to achieve the dream of liberty and justice for all. Come join us on the journey to The Mountaintop.

Gulfshore Playhouse to Award 10 Students Tickets to Holiday Production via DO THE RIGHT THING Program

Gulfshore Playhouse has announced that they will award 10 students with a gift certificate not only for themselves, but for their whole family to see Gulfshore Playhouse's production of Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol this holiday season. The Naples Police Department will be presenting 10 students with awards for showing exemplary behavior in the community through the "Do The Right Thing" program at the Naples City Council meeting on December 4th, and Gulfshore Playhouse is proud to be able to offer these students and their families the opportunity to see this heart-warming production.
