The 2016 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway were handed out last night to recipients in 18 categories, with two special awards and two honorary awards also bestowed. The Lortel Awards were distributed in a ceremony at NYU Skirball Center hosted by Zachary Levi, star of Broadway's She Loves Me. This year's event was once again a benefit for The Actors Fund. On Friday, April 15, 2016, the Broadway play ECLIPSED by Danai Gurira - a story about the navigation of five women through the vicious Liberian civil war - observed a moment of silence during the curtain call to honor of the hundreds of missing girls who, in 2014 were abducted by members of Boko Haram, a terrorist group, at the Chibok school in Northern Nigeria: #BringBackOurGirls.

On last night's LATE NIGHT, actresss Claire Danes discussed returning to the New York stage to perform in the off-Broadway play DRY POWDER.

Legendary scenic and costume designer, MICHAEL YEARGAN (currently represented on Broadway with Fiddler on the Roof and The King and I), and costume designer SUSAN TSU are among the 2016 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).  Ms. Tsu was selected to receive the 2016 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Yeargan will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through Theatre Development Fund's Costume Collection.

The Off-Broadway League today announced nominations in 18 categories for the 31st Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway. It's only appropriate that Tommy, who's committed to diversity and an int'l perspective in theater, is helming an Africa-set play that's Broadway's first ever whose writer, director and cast are all black women.

With ECLIPSED transferring to Broadway and FAMILIAR extended at Playwright's Horizons, Danai Gurira is one of New York's hottest playwrights.

Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons has announced an extension of their New York premiere production of FAMILIAR, a new play by Obie Award-winner Danai Gurira (Eclipsed now on Broadway, In the Continuum, The Convert, Michonne on AMC's 'The Walking Dead'). Directed by Rebecca Taichman (Stage Kiss, Milk Like Sugar at PH; The Oldest Boy; Marie Antoinette; Luck of the Irish; Orlando), the play is the fourth production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season.

The new American play Eclipsed by Danai Gurira, starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o, officially opened last night, March 6th, 2016 on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (252 W. 45th Street). The play also stars Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah andSaycon Sengbloh and is directed by Liesl Tommy.
