With ECLIPSED transferring to Broadway and FAMILIAR extended at Playwright's Horizons, Danai Gurira is one of New York's hottest playwrights.

Due to critical acclaim and popular demand, Playwrights Horizons has announced an extension of their New York premiere production of FAMILIAR, a new play by Obie Award-winner Danai Gurira (Eclipsed now on Broadway, In the Continuum, The Convert, Michonne on AMC's 'The Walking Dead'). Directed by Rebecca Taichman (Stage Kiss, Milk Like Sugar at PH; The Oldest Boy; Marie Antoinette; Luck of the Irish; Orlando), the play is the fourth production of the theater company's 2015/2016 Season.

The new American play Eclipsed by Danai Gurira, starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o, officially opened last night, March 6th, 2016 on Broadway at the Golden Theatre (252 W. 45th Street). The play also stars Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah andSaycon Sengbloh and is directed by Liesl Tommy. The Public Theater announced a final one-week extension today for the world premiere play DRY POWDER by Sarah Burgess and directed by Thomas Kail. Part of Oskar Eustis' 10th Anniversary season, this  deliciously funny new drama about the people shaping, and skewing, the American economy begins previews on Tuesday, March 1 and has now been extended a final week to Sunday, May 1, with an official press opening on Tuesday, March 22.

The American Theatre Wing and The Village Voice have confirmed that the 61st Annual Obie Awards will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Webster Hall (125 East 11th Street). Obie and Screen Actors Guild Award-winning actress Lea DeLaria will return as the host. Tickets to the 2016 Obie Awards will be announced at a later date.
