The Drama League presents DirectorFest,  the only festival in the United States dedicated to the art of contemporary stage directing. Launching the 2020 series is the musical Hello Again, with Book, Music and Lyrics by Michael John LaChiusa, Music Direction by Jesse Kissel, and Directed by 2019 Drama League Leo Shull Musical Directing Fellow Ben Randle.

Broadway power couple, publicist Adrian Bryan-Brown and photographer Joan Marcus, are featured in this episode of 'THEATER: All the Moving Parts', hosted by Patrick Pacheco. Adrian is a publicist who, with his business partner, Chris Boneau, runs a press office which has been responsible for over 400 award-winning productions. Joan has photographed hundreds of plays and musicals, on Broadway, Off-Broadway and around the world. And they share the distinction of being the first couple to be awarded individual Tony Honors for their contributions. The Drama League (Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Director Bevin Ross) announced today the acting company for the 36th annual DirectorFest, the only festival in the United States dedicated to the art of contemporary stage directing. Directorfest will take place January 10 - February 4, 2020 at various locations around NYC: The New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street), The Drama League Theater Center (32 Avenue of the Americas), LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (31-10 Thomson Avenue), and Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street). BroadwayCon announced today BEETLEJUICE has joined the MainStage lineup at BroadwayCon 2020. Tony-winning choreographer Sergio Trujillo is featured in this streaming episode of October's THEATER: All the Moving Parts, hosted by veteran journalist Patrick Pacheco. Trujillo is celebrated for his stunning talent in matching steps to character and story in such musicals as Jersey Boys, Memphis, On Your Feet! and Ain't Too Proud for which he won the 2019 Tony Award.

If there ever was a demand for greater representation on Broadway stages for straight, single, cisgender white guys in their 50s who are insensitive to the women he manages to date and have sex with, Tracy Letts' Linda Vista would surely fill the void. A sort of 21st Century toxic male take on Paddy Chayefsky's classic 'Marty', Letts' new one has its funny moments, and maybe even a bit of poignancy here and there, but is it worth spending nearly three hours watching some full-of-himself average lug continually screw up his romantic opportunities?

Jeremy O. Harris's Slave Play, which opened just last week at the Golden Theatre already has more to celebrate. The play, directed by Robert O'Hara, has just announced that it will extend its limited run by two weeks, now closing on January 19, 2020. The show was previously scheduled to close on January 5.

Slave Play ventures into subject matter the likes of which this playgoer has never seen presented on Broadway, and does so in a bold, even outlandish manner that should be admired and welcomed. This older straight white critic won't claim to get everything the 30-year-old gay African-American playwright is saying, but if voices like his-those that have long been nurtured and developed by non-profit Off-Broadway-can be commercially successful on Broadway, the fabled boulevard can advance just a little closer to truly being the artistic center of American theatre.

Ted Chapin, one of the prime movers of Broadway, joins us for this monthly episode of 'THEATER: All the Moving Parts', hosted by Patrick Pacheco. As President and Chief Creative Officer of The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, he has for decades been custodian of some of the most beloved shows in musical theater such as 'The Sound of Music', “Carousel, 'The King & I' and 'South Pacific.” Without his approval, Daniel Fish's Tony-winning revival of 'Oklahoma!' would never have reached Broadway.
