For over 40 years, Andrew Lloyd Webber's iconic rock opera JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR has been thrilling audiences and sparking conversation and debate between theatergoers and fans alike. Over those 40 years different productions have put their own spin on the tale of the last days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, told from the perspective of Judas Iscariot via a powerful rock score. From the original concept album and productions, to the film starring Ted Neely and Carl Anderson, and most recently with the NBC live production, this captivating story has shown a universal quality that continues to excite audiences as much today as when it premiered. And in that light, the final production of the Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT)'s Nutmeg summer series, does what JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR does best - thrills audiences while stimulating dialogue and introspection, long after the last chords of the score are through.

George Mason University is a bit of a trek when discussing arts organizations in the DMV area. If Saturday night's School of Dance Fete and Gala Concert is any indicator, then this trek is worth making. Celebrating the strides Mason's (still young) dance program has made in recent years, the evening was a unique combination of educational panels and dance showcases. With four moving performances capping off the evening, Mason's dance program cements itself as one to not be underestimated.

There are many reasons why people love to hear stories of the underdog making his or her voice heard and creating real change in the world. Sometimes it is because they can relate to the lone voice of reason cutting through the noise, or the brave soul willing to stand up for what's right, regardless of the consequences. But it is often the tale of the struggling souls who raise their voices, take action and change their circumstances for the better that really stand out and strike a chord. And in NEWSIES, the final production of Connecticut Repertory Theatre's (CRT) Summer Nutmeg Series, the stage comes alive with the "inspired by real-life" story of how a few young men "seized the day" and made a real difference.
Summer might mean break time for students or those planning vacations, but the warm weather just means lots of hot selection on Connecticut theater stages, especially during July.
