2013 Helen Hayes Award Nominations Announced!

theatreWashington just announced the 29th Helen Hayes Awards nominees today, January 28th, 2013 in The National Theatre's Helen Hayes Gallery. This year, for the first time, theatre lovers in Washington and around the world were able to watch the nomination announcements live via webcast at theatrewashington.org, Facebook, or on the Livestream. Sixty years after the landmark American novel's publication, the Huntington Theatre Company presents a searing production of Ralph Ellison's epic Invisible Man. The first adaptation in any medium to be authorized by the Ellison Trust, the Jefferson Award-winning script is by Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Oren Jacoby. Christopher McElroen, award-winner and co-founder of the Classical Theatre of Harlem, directs. Teagle F. Bougere stars in the iconic title role. 2012 Equity Jeff Award Nominations Announced

The Jeff Awards Committee announced 197 nominations in 34 categories for Chicago Equity theatrical productions, which opened between August 1, 2011, and July 31, 2012. The Jeff Awards judges attended opening nights of 118 Equity productions offered by 55 producing organizations. From these openings, 96 productions were 'Jeff Recommended,' which made them eligible for award nominations.

New Orleans Fringe Kicks Off Discussions With Christopher McElroen, 11/14

This year, we kick-off the 2011 New Orleans Fringe Festival with a rare and special opportunity - a candid artist-to-artist discussion with accomplished director Christopher McElroen, who will accompany his discussion with excerpts of archival footage from his 2007 presentation of Waiting for Godot in New Orleans. In Fall 2007, Christopher directed Waiting for Godot on a desolate street corner in the Lower Ninth Ward and at a gutted house in Gentilly, breaking ground on new performance and community fronts in New Orleans.
