Portland Stage closes its 2021-2022 season with a new play with music that is really a chamber opera, SABINA, about the pioneer in psychoanalysis, the muse and lover of Carl Jung and colleague of Sigmund Freud, Sabina Spielrein. Sabina’s story from Jung’s catatonic patient to medical student and respected doctor in the turbulent years leading up to WWII is a fascinating one, filled with history and hope.

After a two-year pandemic delay, the new musical Sabina arrives on stage tonight at Portland Stage. The new musical features Stephanie Machado in the title role, with Philip Stoddard as Carl Jung and Bruce Sabath (Company, Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish) as Sigmund Freud. The cast also includes Jason Michael Evans (Anastasia National Tour) and Sarah Anne Fernandez (Wicked National Tour). 

The touring production of Waitress, playing a limited engagement at Playhouse Square’s Hanna Theatre May 26 – June 26, is looking for two young girls to alternate performing the role of “Lulu” during the five-week run. Auditions for Lulu will take place on Monday, May 9th, at Playhouse Square.

Waitress on tour is now on stage in Charlotte for a special five-week engagement through May 22nd, 2022 in the Booth Playhouse, followed by a five-week engagement at Cleveland's Playhouse Square May 26-June 26, 2022 in the Hanna Theatre.

Sabina is a profoundly moving psychological mystery, the story of Sabina Spielrein, a catatonic 19-year-old Russian girl who is sent to the Burgholzli Institute by her parents as a last resort. She is found there by Carl Jung, who is looking for a patient on whom to try Freud’s not-yet-proven Talking Cure.

Stephanie Torns will star in the lead role as Jenna Hunterson after understudying the role at the American Repertory Theater, prior to the Broadway run, as well as on Broadway. Stephanie also played supporting and ensemble roles throughout the original Broadway run and the show's restaging in 2021.

Sara Bareilles' hit musical Waitress returns to Playhouse Square this May for a limited 5-week engagement at the intimate 550-seat Hanna Theatre. Playhouse Square launched the first national Waitress tour at the Connor Palace in 2017.

Blumenthal Performing Arts announced that the hit Broadway musical Waitress will return to Charlotte for a special 5-week engagement, April 19 - May 22, 2022, in the intimate 442-seat Booth Playhouse. Charlotte is the opening city on this special tour hitting just a handful of markets around the country.

Second Stage is partnering with Assemble Stream to offer simulcasts of its current Broadway production of Lynn Nottage’s play, CLYDE’S, directed by Kate Whoriskey, for the final two weeks of its run, January 4 – 16, 2022, allowing theater fans who aren’t able to attend in person the opportunity to witness a live Broadway performance from home.

Second Stage Theater has announced a series of social justice initiatives centered around the upcoming Broadway production of Lynn Nottage’s play, Clyde’s, directed by Kate Whoriskey. Clyde’s centers around the lives of four formerly incarcerated kitchen staff working at a sandwich shop and looking to reclaim their lives.
