AMERICAN IDIOT Opens 2/12 in Philadelphia

The national tour of the explosive Broadway hit AMERICAN IDIOT, called "wonderfully raucous" and "emotionally charged" by The New York Times and "flat-out electrifying" by the Boston Globe, will make its Philadelphia premiere Feb. 12 - 17 at the Merriam Theater as part of the Broadway Season, presented by The Kimmel Center and The Shubert Organization. The press opening is scheduled for Tues. Feb. 12 at 7:30 pm.

Works & Process at the Guggenheim has announced its spring 2013 season. Since 1984, the performing-arts series has championed new works and offered audiences unprecedented access to leading creators and performers. Each intimate, 80-minute performance uniquely combines artistic creation and stimulating conversation and takes place in the Guggenheim's Frank Lloyd Wright-designed, 285-seat Peter B. Lewis Theater, where new reserved seating is now offered. A reception for the audience and artists follows most programs. Described by the New York Times as "a popular series devoted to shedding light on the creative process," Works & Process is produced by founder Mary Sharp Cronson. A southern Indiana theatre will feature 14 local actors in the premiere of its new signature Lincoln production. The two-act musical play A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will debut at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre tonight, June 8. Playwright Ken Jones wrote the new play into a family-friendly presentation of Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood story into a two-act musical production. A. Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will include an original score of ten songs with lyrics by Christine Jones and composed by Jamey Strawn.

While watching the super-charged, though slightly frustrating Tony-nominated alt-rock musical AMERICAN IDIOT--whose national touring company recently spent a brief week at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, CA--one can't help but feel genuinely entertained by the spectacle of it all, yet many (myself among them) may find themselves wondering: well, we know we're watching something awesome... but WTF is actually happening? More rock concert than your typical Broadway musical, AMERICAN IDIOT succeeds not as a complete musical stage play but rather as a visually-enhanced showcase for its rousing Green Day score and the staggeringly talented cast tasked to perform it.
