Lisa Kron, Aditi Kapil & More to Contribute to 2nd Annual Around-the-Globe Chain Play for World Theatre Day

Starting and ending in NYC, a play will be written as it travels around the world making 15 stops with playwrights from across the globe. Each playwright will contribute the next one to four pages of text, moving the plot forward from where the previous playwright left off. The playwrights are Lisa Kron (USA, NYC), Aditi Kapil (USA, Minneapolis), Nicolas Billon (Canada), Luz Estrada (Colombia), Thomas Sainsbury (New Zealand), Nick Rongjun Yu (China), Anuvab Pal (India), Oded Liphshiz (Israel), Lily Bevan (UK), Nina Mitrovi? (Croatia), Lana Nasser (The Netherlands), Phillip M. Dikotla (South Africa), Amy Conroy (Ireland), Sol Rodriguez Seoane (Argentina), and Chisa Hutchinson (USA, NYC).

Playwrights Theatre to Begin Working With Third Round of NJEWP Participants

In 2012, Playwrights Theatre began the New Jersey Emerging Women Playwrights Project (NJEWP) as part of its larger ongoing effort to provide meaningful support to playwrights through an authentic development process that focuses on the specific and individual needs of the writer.

Full Cast and Creatives Announced for Yale Rep's THESE PAPER BULLETS!

YALE REPERTORY THEATRE presents the world premiere of THESE PAPER BULLETS!, a modish ripoff of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, adapted by Rolin Jones, with songs by Billie Joe Armstrong, and directed by Jackson Gay, March 14-April 5 at the University Theatre (222 York Street). Opening Night is Thursday, March 20.

Jam ON TOAST, One-Minute Play Festival & More Set for New Georges' 2014 Season

New Georges' 22nd production year will spotlight on The New Georges Jam ON TOAST at Dixon Place, a new play festival that will feature work by the New Georges Jam, a "performance gym" for early-career playwrights and directors founded at New Georges in 2010 by Lucy Alibar(Beasts of the Southern Wild), Jess Chayes (HOME/SICK) and Portia Krieger (Eager to Lose). The New Georges Jam ON TOAST will feature 19 Jammers past and present - including two playwrights receiving their first New York productions. But first New Georges will kick things off with The 1st George Sand Invitational One-Minute Play Festival, the first all-women edition of the nationwide One-Minute Play Festival, January 13th & 14th at INTAR Theatre, featuring one-minute plays by over 50 female playwrights. The '14 season will also feature a special collaboration between New Georges and Barnard College in March, New Plays at Barnard, which will bring downtown artists and the new-play experience to students at Barnard and Columbia.

Winter Miller, Marya Hornbacher & More Set for RAPE AID: FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS RAPE, 12/17

Fed up with a culture that spends more energy warning girls how to avoid rape instead of teaching boys rape is always wrong, playwright Winter Miller created Rape Aid, an experiment in activism, theater and charity with an all-inclusive post-show dance party. For Rape Aid, a half dozen artists were commissioned to make short pieces (plays, monologues, songs, films) for an evening to incite dialogue on the subject of rape.

Featured Guest Erik Ehn to Launch New York Madness' 2013 Season, 9/15

New York Madness (NYM) is about to start its Fourth Season. With a focus on emerging writers, NYM hosts a hot night of short plays based on a theme proposed by the more established Featured Guest. The Theme is announced one week prior to the event.

Premiere Stages Kicks Off 2013 Season With an Interactive Reading of ONTARIO WAS HERE, Now thru 6/23

Premiere Stages will open its ninth season as the professional theatre company in residence at Kean University with a free staged reading of Darren Canady's powerful new play Ontario Was Here. Selected from over 400 submissions, Ontario Was Here is the first of two scripts scheduled for expanded development as part of the 2013 Premiere Stages Play Festival. The Festival is an annual competition for unproduced scripts by playwrights with ties to the greater metropolitan area (New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut), and perfectly embodies the theatre's passionate and longstanding commitment to supporting emerging artists through the development and production of new plays.

humRumbleROAR Productions has announced the world premiere production of Chisa Hutchinson's ALONDRA WAS HERE, directed by Jade King Carroll. ALONDRA WAS HERE will play a limited engagement at The Wild Project (195 East 3rd Street, NYC). Performances begin tonight, May 4 and continue through Saturday, May 18. Opening Night is Wednesday, May 8 (7 p.m.).

The Lark Play Development Center Names Playwrights’ Workshop Fellows

The Lark Play Development Center named five New York City-based dramatists as Playwrights' Workshop Fellows for the 2012-13 season. The group spans a wide range of cultural backgrounds and professional experiences and will meet regularly through June to develop new plays.

This year's performance will feature 30 original LGBTQ-themed plays, including 15 world-premiers and 15 fan favorites from years past.
