History Matters/Back To The Future Announces 2016 Judith Barlow Prize Winner

History Matters/Back To The Future, committed to promoting the study and production of women's plays of the past, has announced the winner of the second annual Judith Barlow Prize. Lindsay Adams, a student at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., has been chosen for her one-act play, HER OWN DEVICES, which was inspired by Mary Chase's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Harvey.

Kennedy Center to Livestream EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS Preview

As part of the kick-off event for the 2016 Kennedy Center (KC) American College Theater Festival, a special preview of the EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS will be performed and livestreamed as part of KC's Millennium Stage Series. The preview consists of an excerpt of the collection with more than 30 one-minute plays inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, with participation by theater makers and institutions across the nation and showcases the creative outcome of a community outreach residency in Ferguson and St. Louis County, Missouri in the fall of 2015.

CATF Sets 2016 Season

The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University has announced its 2016 line-up featuring five new American plays, including three world premieres. Theater Festival Producing Director Ed Herendeen has chosen scripts from Christina Anderson, Allison Gregory, Chisa Hutchinson, two-time OBIE-Award winner, Susan Miller, and Ronan Noone. 

National Black Theatre to Present UN-TAMED

In celebration of Women's History Month, Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's NATIONAL BLACK THEATRE will present a six (6) performance limited engagement of UN-TAMED: Hair Body Attitude. Created by The New Black Fest (TNBF) and guest-curated by Dominique Morisseau (author of NY TIMES CRITICS PICK Skeleton Crew and Sunset Baby), UN-TAMED is a collection of five (5) short plays by Black Women that explore and dig into the national conversation surrounding Black womanhood and social perceptions of Black femininity. This production will be co-directed by award winning directors Kaia Calhoun and Elizabeth Van Dyke. 

NJPAC Launches Stage Exchange Program

New Jersey Theatre Alliance (the Alliance), in partnership with the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and Newark Celebration 350, is embarking on a groundbreaking new play commission program, NJPAC Stage Exchange: The Commissions, working with three professional New Jersey theatres to produce original works by a talented trio of Garden State playwrights.

Forward Flux Sets 2016 Season

'We are thrilled to bring another line up of the best new plays from emerging playwrights around the country to Seattle,' said Artistic Director Wesley Fruge. After ending 2015 with the hit production of Green Whales by Lia Romeo ('Top Ten of 2015' -David-Edward Hughes), the company will be presenting Romeo's newest play, Ends of the Earth as part of The Flux Salon series. Romeo says, 'Forward Flux does everything right. They present plays that are innovative but also audience-friendly, and they showcase new writers and under-represented voices.'

Directed by Obie winner Jonathan McCrory, performances of this this limited run Off-Broadway engagement run through November 23.

Works By Women to Host 'Parity Party' This Weekend

Works By Women proudly announces that it will host the Industry's first Parity Party on October 18th at 7:00pm at TheaterLab (357 West 36th Street, 3rd Floor).  The evening of eclectic performances created and/or performed by women is presented to raise awareness and funding toward the organization's goal of reaching gender equality in the theatre. The Segal Center's Fall 2015 Season to Feature New Black Fest, Theatre from Italy & More

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at the Graduate Center City University of New York, announces its Fall 2015/Winter 2016 season of public programs. The season will launch with the twelfth annual PRELUDE Festival (October 7, 8 & 9), an always thought-provoking and engaging first look at the latest in New York City downtown experimental performance scene. The season continues with free public programs throughout the fall and winter, featuring contemporary theatre and performing artists from around the world.

National Black Theatre Sets 47th Season

Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's NATIONAL BLACK THEATRE, the oldest continually operating black theater in New York, will present its 47th Annual Season of theatrical productions beginning in October. During the 2015 - 2016 season, the institution will present two New York City Premieres and a workshop production under the timely theme of 'The Policing of the Black Body.' Season Passes are $99 ($149 for VIP) and guarantee seats to all 3 productions and other special events happening within the 47th Season. NJPAC Launches STAGE EXCHANGE

In 2014, New Jersey Performing Arts Centerlaunched the Stage Exchange series, where cutting-edge new play development meets insightful community dialogue. Heading into its second year, NJPAC announces an inaugural commissioning program as part of the Stage Exchange. Following the commission period and staged reading at NJPAC, each play will receive a world premiere in the 2016-17 season at a New Jersey theater.
