Film stars, world leaders, UN officials, New York City representatives and activists came together today at the world's leading performing arts campus, Lincoln Center in New York, to launch the second year of UN Women's HeForShe Arts Week - an initiative launched by UN Women's Global Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson in 2016 to leverage the arts for gender equality.

The Public Theater announced today that it is proud to serve as the inaugural theatrical partner with HeForShe, the movement for gender equality from UN Women, in partnership with the City of New York. The first HeForShe Arts Week in support of global gender equality will run March 8-15, 2016 in New York, to coincide with International Women's Day observed globally on March 8th.

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced tonight the complete list of 2013-14 season award recipients. The Bessies, produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, were held at the legendary Apollo Theater at 7:30 p.m., following red carpet interviews and photographs with the nominees in attendance. In 1994, Bette Midler returned to New York after nearly 20 years in Los Angeles, and started the New York Restoration Project, a non-profit organization devoted to bringing abandoned and neglected parks, gardens, and open spaces in all five boroughs back to life.
