New York Live Arts Hosts its 2019 Live Ideas Gala

New York Live Arts 2019 Live Ideas Gala, co-chaired by Matthew Putman, Slobodan Randjelovi and Jon Stryker, and hosted by award-winning director and photographer and noted social activist Indrani Pal-Chaudhuri, pays tribute to Live Arts' annual Live Ideas Festival. The Gala will take place at the Caldwell Factory, 547 W 26th St, New York City on Monday, March 25th starting with a cocktail reception followed by a dinner catered by BITE and performances.

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW, Broadway's Supper Club, presents Queen Diva in "Strength of a Woman: A Phyllis Hyman Tribute" on September 3, 2018. The 75 minute  tribute begins with Phyllis Hyman's days with Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Ladies Medley-A Train, It Don't Mean A Thing, In A Sentimental Mood" to her pivotal vocal performance in Spike Lee's "School Daze" singing "Be One"  to her recording career beginning with Norman Connors singing "Betcha By Golly Wow" to  her favorite songs "What You Won't Do For Love," to "Old Friend" a song she would dedicate to her numerous dear friends who died of AIDS in the late 1980's and early 1990's.

First Lady Chirlane McCray and Gabrielle Fialkoff, Senior Advisor and Director of the Mayor's Office of Strategic Partnerships, announced today a partnership between the Gracie Mansion Conservancy and MCC Theater during its 2017/18 season to increase access to arts and culture to at-risk youth. Gracie Mansion hosted the launch event on Wednesday, September 20th, featuring a performance of selected scenes from the Off-Broadway production of Charm, followed by a youth-focused panel discussion. Cast Set for Tectonic Theater Project's UNCOMMON SENSE, A New Play About Living with Autism

Tectonic Theater Project has announced casting for the New York premiere of Uncommon Sense, a new play about living on the autism spectrum, which the Sheen Center for Thought & Culture presents for five weeks only, October 25 to November 26, at The Sheen Center's Loreto Theater (18 Bleecker Street, NYC). The work is written by Anushka Paris-Carter and Andy Paris and directed by Andy Paris under the artistic direction of Tectonic's founder, Moises Kaufman.

Museum of the Moving Image Hosts Ribbon-Cutting for The Jim Henson Exhibition

At a celebratory opening ceremony for The Jim Henson Exhibition, housed in a new gallery at Museum of the Moving Image funded by The City of New York, the First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, the Museum's Executive Director Carl Goodman, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, and City Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer were joined by Jim Henson's daughter Cheryl Henson, and special appearances by Abby Cadabby, Red Fraggle, and Fozzie Bear, among other guests. This major new exhibition is dedicated to the life and legacy of Jim Henson, who was a singular creative figure in the realms of television, film, and puppetry-and a New Yorker who made the City his base for family and work. The Jim Henson Exhibition opens to the public on Saturday, July 22.

NYC Hosts Annual #PoetweetNYC Twitter Poetry Contest, Thru 4/21

In honor of National Poetry Month, the City of New York (@NYCGov & @NYCulture) will host the annual “PoetweetNYC” Twitter poetry contest. From April 17 through 21, 2017, eligible poems sent using the hashtag #PoetweetNYC will be considered for the grand prize: publication in Metro New York on April 27, Poem in Your Pocket Day. Entries will be judged by an expert panel led by First Lady Chirlane McCray. This year, the contest coincides with Immigrant Heritage Week, so participants are encouraged to submit poetweets that celebrate our city's rich immigrant heritage. Visit nyc.gov/poem for official rules and eligibility.
