Noted members of the theatre community are among the 683 invited to be Oscar voters.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has extended invitations to join the organization to 683 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

Corky Hale presents I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU - The Life and Lyrics of Al Dubin, which opened May 13 at the Montalban Theatre, 1615 Vine St. in Hollywood. This new musical features lyrics by Al Dubin, music mostly by Harry Warren, book by Jerry Leichtling and Arlene Sarner, and musical direction by Gerald Sternbach. While they're no Tonys, THE ACADEMY AWARDS are kind of a big deal for showbiz folks. So, throughout the week, BroadwayWorld has been covering the 2016 Oscars from a decidedly theatre perspective, and tonight will be no different. The Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706) tonight announced winners of its Annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards in 23 categories of film, television, commercials and live theater. Winners in the film categories include 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' 'Cinderella,' 'Furious 7' and 'Pitch Perfect 2.' Television winners included 'American Horror Story: Hotel,' 'Game of Thrones,' 'Dancing With the Stars,' 'The Walking Dead' and 'Scream Queens.'

In a unanimous vote Thursday night (1/21), the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences approved a sweeping series of substantive changes designed to make the Academy's membership, its governing bodies, and its voting members significantly more diverse.

In response to the controversy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has issued a statement last night.

Spike Lee turned to Instagram to announce that he and his wife, Tonya will be boycotting next month's Academy Awards ceremony due to the lack of diversity among the nominees.

THE REVENANT leads the pack with 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor (both Lead and Supporting) and Best Directing.

Star from the world of theater were recognized in several categories this year. For Best Actor in a Lead Role, Tony Award winner Bryan Cranston (ALL THE WAY) received a nod for TRUMBO. He shares the honor with last year's Oscar winner and Tony Award winner Eddie Redmayne (RED) for THE DANISH GIRL, and Michael Fassbender for STEVE JOBS.

The 88th Oscars® will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network

It's that time of year again! Hollywood heavyweights are flocking to the Dolby Theatre this afternoon to attend the 87th Annual Academy Awards.
