By 1939. the Depression had begun to wane, but Dorothy still took a road trip to Oz to find out that there's no place like home. John Steinbeck published The Grapes of Wrath that year; the Joad family also had to leave their Oklahoma home and hit the road because the Dust Bowl was no Miss Gulch nor a dream they'd wake up from. Steinbeck called the road they took, Route 66, the Mother Road which has given Octavio Solis his title for Arena's current production through March 8.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which is entering its 85th year, today announced the casts for the 2020 season, featuring some of the most beloved performers from OSF's history alongside newcomers from around the country. OSF is one of the most prominent theatre companies across the nation that have joined the Jubilee, a yearlong nationwide commitment by theatres to feature work generated by those who have traditionally been excluded from or marginalized by the theatre industry. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival will reach a long-overdue milestone this month with the opening of the world-premiere production of Off the Rails, the 82-year-old Festival's first play by a Native writer. Playwright Randy Reinholz's irreverent and subversive adaptation of Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, directed by OSF Artistic Director Bill Rauch, previews July 27, 28 and 29, opens July 30 and runs in the Angus Bowmer Theatre through the end of the 2017 season.
This autumn marks the 45th anniversary tour of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's School Visit Program (SVP), which sends OSF actors directly to schools throughout the Western United States. Over 100 schools will host actors this fall.

Oh, the places you'll go! The Oregon Shakespeare Festival transports audiences to a ghostly Danish castle, dynastic China, and Oz's Emerald City when its outdoor theatre opens the weekend of June 17-19. The Allen Elizabethan Theatre will feature Hamlet, directed by Lisa Peterson; the classic 1970s musical The Wiz, directed by Robert O'Hara; and The Winter's Tale, directed by Desdemona Chiang. The shows will close the weekend of October 14-16.
PERICLES, on stage at the Folger Theatre, is a gorgeous and focused production - this from a work that travels through decades and around the Mediterranean in a plot that layers incest, mistaken death, pirates, murder plots and selling a woman into prostitution. But in director Joseph Haj's capable hands the lighter moments bring balance and relief so in the end PERICLES reminds us of both the deep challenges and moments of beauty and light in the human experience.

The American Theater Group will present a one-night only concert performance featuring songs from VERY VERY, the brand new electric adaptation of Shakespeare's classic comedy "As You Like It" reimagined as a contemporary rock concert on December 9, 2013 at 8:00 pm at Union County Performing Arts Center's Hamilton Stage. Acting Company Alum, Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey Artistic Associate, and current Artistic Director of National Players with The Olney Theatre Center, Jason King Jones, will direct.
