Fire Island Dance Festival Announced

A Tony Award winner, an Emmy nominee, three MacArthur 'Genius Grant' fellows and one of the most legendary American dance companies will help celebrate the 25th anniversary of Fire Island Dance Festival on July 19-21, 2019, in Fire Island Pines, NY. Produced by and benefiting Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Fire Island Dance Festival (#fidance) will bring world-class dance from an array of styles to a picturesque waterfront stage on the Great South Bay. Among the companies and choreographers scheduled to present pieces are:
Siphesihle November of The National Ballet of Canada and Catherine Hurlin of American Ballet Theatre Win The Erik Bruhn Prize

Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced that Siphesihle November, 20, of The National Ballet of Canada and Catherine Hurlin, 23, of American Ballet Theatre are the winners of The International Competition for The Erik Bruhn Prize. The competition took place last night at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto. Each dancer receives a cash prize of $7,500 and a sculpture by Jack Culiner. Kristian Lever from The Hamburg Ballet is the winner of the Choreographic Prize for his specially commissioned work, An intimate distance and also receives a sculpture by Jack Culiner and a cash prize of $2,500.
Jeannine Haller and Siphesihle November Compete For The Erik Bruhn Prize

Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced that Corps de Ballet members Jeannine Haller (22) and Siphesihle November (20) will represent the company at The Thirteenth International Competition for The Erik Bruhn Prize on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 7:30 pm at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Choreographic Workshop alumna Alysa Pires creates a new contemporary work commissioned by the National Ballet for the choreographic prize. #BruhnPrize

In this case, that sweet nostalgia came from the 15th anniversary of the celebrated Fall for Dance Festival at the New York's historic City Center. With five different programs featuring a variety of choreographers and dancers, Fall for Dance is the best representation of dance we have in the modern world; not only does each piece reveal something new, but it shows us the parts of ourselves we don't often show to the world.
Catherine Hurlin Awarded 2018 Princess Grace Foundation-USA Dance Fellowship

American Ballet Theatre Soloist Catherine Hurlin is the recipient of a 2018 Princess Grace Award (Barbara & John Lehman Dance Award). Hurlin received one of nine fellowships granted in the Dance and Choreography category. The annual Princess Grace Foundation-USA awards were announced in New York City on July 26.

The Princess Grace Foundation-USA (PGF-USA) has announced the winners of the 2018 Princess Grace Awards. The Awards will be presented at the annual Princess Grace Awards Gala and continue the legacy of Princess Grace (Kelly) of Monaco, who helped emerging artists pursue their artistic goals during Her lifetime. In total, the Foundation is awarding over $1 million to artists in theater, dance, and film. In the presence of Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco, this year's Gala will be held at Cipriani 25 Broadway on October 16, 2018. The evening will be co-chaired by Dennis and Phyllis Washington and Anne Sweeney and Phillip Miller.

As the audience filled the David H. Koch Theater on Oct 24, 2017 to watch American Ballet Theatre's fall season, one thing became very clear: Appreciation for classical ballet is alive and well in New York City. In a time of great global uncertainty and turmoil, having the arts to go back to is an immense comfort, because we can see ourselves in it: the good, the bad, and the yet-to-be-discovered. And in this season's selections, American Ballet Theatre proved that completely, committing to showcasing the beauty of balance between polar opposites.
NYCDAF Awards High School Seniors $1,000 in Scholarships

The New York City Dance Alliance Foundation (NYCDAF), a forward-thinking charity committed to shaping the future lives and training of young dancers, returned to The Joyce Theater on January 30, 2017 with Destiny Rising. A yearly fundraising performance benefiting NYCDAF's college scholarship program, the evening opened with a commissioned premiere by NYCDA's Rachel Kreiling, spotlighting 2016 scholarship recipients. The program also included guest performances from prominent professional dance companies, including Desmond Richardson, Parsons Dance, and American Ballet Theatre soloists Catherine Hurlin and Aran Bell. Ten 2017 scholarships recipients were named during the program, from eight different states.

The Sixth Annual Clive Barnes Awards was a held on a chilly afternoon, at the Walter Reade Theater, Lincoln Center. Winning in the Dance Award--Gabe Stone Shayer, and the Theatre Award went to Dave Thomas Brown. A lovely afternoon to celebrate the late Clive Barnes, The Clive Barnes Foundation, and recognizing talented the finalists and both winners of this humble award.
