BAD SEED A One-Night-Only Reading To Benefit The New Group Announced

On Monday, November 4, Ann Harada, Crystal Lucas-Perry, John Cameron Mitchell, Taylor Schilling, Wallace Shawn and Fred Weller will appear in a one-night-only reading of Maxwell Anderson's Bad Seed, to benefit The New Group, as the company celebrates its 25th Anniversary Season.  Cynthia Nixon directs.  This benefit reading supports New Group/New Works, The New Group's play and musical development program.

Oscar- and Grammy-nominated composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens debuts pianist Timo Andres' recording of “IV” from The Decalogue today.

Santtu-Matias Rouvali To Conduct NY Premiere Of Bryce Dessner's WIRES

Santtu-Matias Rouvali will make his New York Philharmonic debut conducting the New York Premiere of Bryce Dessner's Wires, featuring the composer (lead guitarist of The National) on electric guitar in his Philharmonic debut; Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet, Overture-Fantasy; and Sibelius's Symphony No. 1. The program will take place on Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 15 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 16 at 8:00 p.m.

The New Group Extends CYRANO Through December 22nd

Due to popular demand, The New Group has announced an extension for Cyrano, with Ritchie Coster, Josh A. Dawson, Peter Dinklage, Hillary Fisher, Josh Franklin, Christopher Gurr, Blake Jenner, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Nehal Joshi, Grace McLean, Erika Olson and Scott Stangland.

CYRANO Cast and Composers to Speak at Works & Process at the Guggenheim

Works & Process, the performing arts series at the Guggenheim, presents The New Group: Cyrano Adapted & Directed by Erica Schmidt, with Peter Dinklage, Blake Jenner, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner of The National on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 7:30pm. Music Director Ted Author will accompany the performances on piano.

The National to Release Live Three-Cassette Box Set

The National has announced the release of a live three-cassette box set, Juicy Sonic Magic, from their September 24th and 25th, 2018 Greek Theatre shows in Berkeley, CA at the end of their Sleep Well Beast tour. The Berkeley shows were taped by producer and engineer Erik Flannigan using The Mike Millard Method, which replicates the vintage analog recording equipment the legendary taper used in the '70s and '80s. The triple cassette limited release will come out November 29th exclusively as part of Record Store Day Black Friday. Both Flannigan and The National's Matt Berninger spoke to Relix about the upcoming release, which will be accompanied by a short documentary of the same name about Millard and the process of taping the Berkeley concerts from the audience, directed by David DuBois. Record Store Day Black Friday releases are available only at independent record stores starting 11/29.

Katia And Marielle Labéque Join CSO For Bryce Dessner U.S. Premiere

Sisters Katia and Marielle Labéque return to the Music Hall stage with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) on September 20-21 (Friday at 11 AM and Saturday at 8 PM) for the U.S. premiere of Bryce Dessner's Concerto for Two Pianos. A Cincinnati native and member of the alternative rock band The National, Mr. Dessner (who has received Grammy Awards both for his orchestral compositions and work with The National) has collaborated with the CSO on several occasions, both as a performer and a composer.

Sufjan Stevens to Release Score for Justin Peck's Ballet 'The Decalogue'

Oscar- and Grammy-nominated composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens will release his acclaimed score for Justin Peck's ballet The Decalogue October 18 via his own label, AKR. Performed by the pianist Timo Andres, the recording is the first time the score, premiered during the New York City Ballet's 2017 season, is available to the public.

CreArtBox Opens season with soloists Guillermo Laporta, Josefina Urraca and Parhelion Trio

New York City-based performing arts organization CreArtBox and Parhelion Trio presents a new production titled a?oeBilitisa?? that includes the staging of Claude Debussy's Chansons de Bilitis, featuring actor Jacopo Rampini, a world premiere by Seong Ae Kim, and music by Philip Glass, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Camille Saint-Saëns.

The New Group presents Cyrano, beginning October 11, ahead of an official opening night on November 7. Cyrano is adapted by Erica Schmidt from Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand, with Music by Aaron Dessner and Bryce Dessner of The National, Lyrics by Matt Berninger of The National and Carin Besser, and Choreography by Jeff and Rick Kuperman, directed by Erica Schmidt.

Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra's Gershwin World Premiere Recording Out Now

The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and Music Director Louis Langrée announce the release of the Orchestra's latest recording, Transatlantic. The album showcasing American composer George Gershwin's take on bustling Paris, French composer Edgar Varèse's take on New York's soundscape, and Igor Stravinsky composing the same work across two continents became available on Friday, August 30 for streaming and purchase digitally. A two-compact disc physical release of Transatlantic will be available September 13, 2019. This album includes the highly anticipated world premiere recording of the critical edition of George Gershwin's An American in Paris. The CSO also gave the world premiere performance of this new edition at La Seine Musicale in Paris in 2017.

CreArtBox Assembles International Roster For 2nd Annual Music Festival In Long Island City

Long Island City-based performing arts organization, CreArtBox, announces its second annual music festival. The festival strives to present classical and contemporary music in a modern way, using eclectic programming and a strong visual component to engage and enthuse audience members. Taking place during three evenings across Labor Day Weekend (August 30th - September 1st), the festival will be hosted at the 12,000 square foot Plaxall Gallery (5-25 46th Ave, Long Island City, NY 11101).
