THE COLOR PURPLE Director Blitz Bazawule to Direct Upcoming BLACK SAMURAI

Fresh off the heals of his 2023 musical hit The Color Purple, director Blitz Bazawule has found his next project. According to Variety, the director will be working with Warner Bros. on a new take on the story of Yasuke, the 16th century African warrior. In addition to Warner Bros, three other studios were also interested in the project, resulting in a bidding war.

Singer Klea Blackhurst has long been doing tribute shows rich in song and Broadway history. Now, starting this Sunday, April 14th at 7 pm, Blackhurst will be revisiting each of these shows in a season-long series of “The Box Set” at Chelsea Table + Stage, starting this Sunday with “Autumn in New York: Vernon Duke’s Broadway.”

Review: A TRIP TO THE MOON at DreamWrights

DreamWrights is performing “A Trip to the Moon” by Tracy Wells under the direction of Crystal Ganong from April 5th to April 14th. This vignette-style play will take you back to the summer of 1969 in America when everyone was talking about landing on the moon, Woodstock, and Vietnam. Each short scene was titled by an iconic song from 1969 and addressed themes from the time. Many issues are still relevant today like women’s rights, civil rights, and trusting the government.

Dallas Theater Center Announces WAITRESS And More For 2024-2025 Season

Dallas Theater Center has announced titles for the 2024-2025 season, including Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors, a fang-tastic comedy full of clever wordplay and quick-change antics; Shane, the Wild West story of heroism and family; Primary Trust, a story of friendship, healing and small chances; Waitress, serving satisfaction, one slice at a time; and Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a reimagined biblical story for audiences of all ages. A Christmas Carol will return and dazzle as a holiday add-on.

RVSHVD Will Release Debut EP, 'The Intro'

South Georgia singer songwriter RVSHVD (pronounce RA-SHAD) is set to release The Intro his debut EP on April 19th. “The Intro” validates his contribution within today's country music expansion while featuring rock star collaborators Ice Nine Kills, Asking Alexandria and hip hop icon Paul Wall.
