There is magic afoot at MSMT's Pickard Theater - and miracles! Not supernatural ones, but rather those that happen when a fresh new work of musical theatre dazzles the public with its excitement and beauty. And that is exactly what Marc Robin and Curt Dale Clark's TREASURE ISLAND A MUSICAL ADVENTURE does as its charts an epic and extraordinary course that gives MSMT audiences a production that is grand, genuinely thrilling, and emotionally satisfying in a timeless way. Robert Louis Stevenson's novel has been adapted for stage and screen numerous times, but none has been as compelling, as simultaneously classic and contemporary as this new musical version, which had its world premiere at the Fulton Theatre in 2018. This East Coast premiere of TREASURE ISLAND offers audiences an opulent production, a brilliant team of creatives, cast, and crew, who pour all their energies into crafting an adventure for the ages. Known for bringing 'Broadway to Brunswick,' with TREASURE ISLAND MSMT has produced a show that is worthy to inhabit any Broadway stage and to find a lasting place in the American musical repertoire.

Producer Peter Dunn (So You Think You Can Belt, TRL: Total Request Live, Rise Up, GAYS: The Series) is teaming up with Samantha Rhea Parrish to produce a tribute show for music superstar, Ed Sheeran on Saturday June 9th at 10PM at The West End Lounge. The night is entitled Sheer Ed 2.0 and will be presented with a live band, phenomenal vocalists, and Ed's catalogue of music from new arrangements, to sizzling mashups, to emotional performances of his music. On Tuesday, ANYTHING GOES opened the final stop on its National Tour at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts; you can check out my review here. After Opning Night, I sat down with Tracy Bidleman, who plays Evangeline Harcourt, to discuss about what makes this show feel-good show such an enduring classic.

Beloved theatre standards, tap-dancing sailors, chorines in sequins, a farcically silly plot; what more could you want from a Cole Porter musical? After winning three Tony Awards in 2012, including Best Revival of a Musical, the National Tour of ANYTHING GOES ends its delightfully giddy run at Orlando's Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts this week, concluding on Sunday, May 31st. This non-Equity tour boasts Kathleen Marshall's direction and choreography, the latter of which earned her a third Tony. A joyful celebration of old-fashioned musical theatre, the delightful cast will leave you with a smile on your face, but this ANYTHING GOES lacks the sharpness and playfulness to make you fall out of your seat laughing and/or cheering, which most certainly can happen when this classic is at its best.
