Over the course of each Broadway season, unexpected and unique storylines inevitably pop up. This morning, with the announcement of the 2019 Tony Award nominations, a number of new narratives have come to life.
This year's TONY AWARDS nominations have just been announced by Bebe Neuwirth and Brandon Victor Dixon and here they are, celebrating the best of the 2018-19 theatre season (and what a season it's been!) The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) today announced the 2019 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. The nominations were announced this morning by the current stars of Waitress, Shoshana Bean and Jeremy Jordan, at the official announcement event at Sardi's Restaurant, which was streamed live online here at BroadwayWorld.
Yesterday, BroadwayWorld was saddened to report the passing of veteran stage and screen actor, Georgia Engel. She was 70 years old.

Ryan Murphy was making it clear that last night belonged to The Prom. The six-time Emmy Award winner Ryan Murphy hosted a special performance of the hit show to benefit Hetrick Martin, GLAAD and The Trevor Project, and the performance was followed by an equally special curtain call announcement.

The adaptation will be the first project in Murphy's deal with Netflix. According to his Instagram, Murphy will be bringing the entire Broadway creative team on board for the project.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that three Broadway favorites are set to bring The Princess Bride to life onstage. A Disney Theatrical spokesperson has confirmed that that David Yazbek (Tootsie, The Band's Visit) will write the score, and Bob Martin (The Prom) and Rick Elice (The Cher Show) will co-write the book for the new musical.
