?For two storied nights in 2006, singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright performed a love letter to Judy Garland's Judy At Carnegie Hall concert with a tribute of his own, Rufus Does Judy At Carnegie Hall. Backed by a 36-piece orchestra conducted by Stephen Oremus, he performed Judy's epic 1961 Carnegie Hall performance in its entirety. A dazzling spectacle performed in front of sold-out crowds, it was critically lauded and remains a pinnacle of success amidst a career full of them.

A cast of 15 Broadway stars will sing completely new arrangements of the legendary diva's greatest hits, accompanied by a 14-piece orchestra playing original orchestrations. Anna Netrebko came out on stage in a shimmering white and silver gown with matching headband, looking like an Art Deco goddess in a poster by Alfonso Mucha. It's a look that suited her--not only because the Russian soprano has Bellini's NORMA on her Met schedule in the not-too-distant future, but because she's about as close to a goddess as the Met can conjure up these days (with maybe one or two competitors). And the audience ate it up.
