A powerful, dark piece from one of the 20th centuries greatest playwrights, Samuel Beckett, is coming to the west village. 'Not I' is hailed as a touchstone of avant-garde theatre. It will be presented at 124 Bank Street Theatre November 5 & 6.

Apollo Chamber Players today releases their fifth studio album, With Malice Toward None, on Azica Records. The album is a breathtaking collection of globally-inspired compositions and collaborations, with each composer sharing their own personal interpretations of folk music.

The Pamela Z, Theofanidis and Wingate, and Beglarian pieces are part of Apollo’s 20x2020 project, launched in 2014 with a mission to commission 20 new multicultural works before the end of the decade.

2021 marks the 60th anniversary of Samuel Beckett’s challenging play Happy Days. Written in 1961, a fantastic new revival now comes to Riverside Studios. Deftly directed by Trevor Nunn, the play resonates more than ever and features a truly stunning performance from Lisa Dwan.

It's not clear as of this writing quite when live theatre will return in force, so in the interest of casting as wide a net as possible, what follows are five performances to whet the appetite, culled from offerings both online and, in due course, inside an actual playhouse.

Jermyn Street Theatre kicks off its 2020 season with three of Samuel Beckett's finest short plays. The Beckett Triple Bill will be directed by Trevor Nunn and feature the stellar cast of Niall Buggy, Lisa Dwan, James Hayes and David Threlfall. These works are as funny as they are poignant, as compelling as they are lyrical and, together, they demonstrate Beckett's remarkable range, inventiveness, and wit.

The Irish Repertory Theatre has announced that Conor McPherson's acclaimed play SHINING CITY, starring two-time Tony Award-winner Matthew Broderick, will inaugurate its newly renovated theater, located at 132 West 22nd Street.

Irish actress Lisa Dwan, the premier interpreter of Samuel Beckett, is about to step down from the position this spring, but before she does, she will make  an appearance with the Beckett Trilogy at the The Broad Stage in Santa Monica in April. Why is this the first time that all 3 plays have been performed together? Well I guess one reason is that Not I is rarely performed and Footfalls has never been performed by one actress playing both roles of Mother (off stage) and May (on stage), and to my knowledge no other actress has tried to perform all three roles in one evening. Up until I tried it, I didn't even think it was possible.
